Why Mormonism is like Star Wars...
...and the bulk of Protestantism like Star Trek:
Richard Ho, writing for The Harvard Crimson, states that the heroes of Star Wars such as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker have a swashbuckling style while the protagonists of Star Trek such as Captain Picard and Mr. Spock resolve their challenges with science and intellect.
I'm not here to argue the case of science and reasoning in Protestantism. I'm here to ask you to consider the term "swashbuckling". I just learned this word today and I'm thinking it fits well in Mormonism. In particular, it seems to describe the efforts put forth by the apologists as they fight against the evil empire called criticism. Their ally is the Force, a.k.a. confirmation bias.
Regarding Star Wars vs. Star Trek, the Denver Post highlights two differences in approach, noting Star Wars' "swashbuckling" and "gunslinger" style compared with Star Trek's "broader themes of utopian living, justice and identity". The Post says the spiritual aspect of Star Wars contrasts with the balance of emotion and logic in Star Trek.
Brigham Young started the religion off with the Solo/Skywalker style but maybe now the leaders are finally becoming more Trekkie.

Captain Kirk was quite the swashbuckler, but the show made him out to be a genius under pressure also.......

Star Wars and Star Trek are both like all religions: complete fiction. The only difference is that Star Wars is good fiction.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Re: Why Mormonism is like Star Wars...
I like some Star Treks. Some of them were really dumb. I think Star Wars (except maybe the very first one) were all really dumb. Really, really dumb.
I can't really see how any of them are much like Mormonism. Maybe I just don't have the imagination to link the two.
(Still trying to figure out what the appeal of this place is ...)

How about you post a topic about Mormonism and we can discuss it. Like the first vision, Book of Mormon, the holy ghost, polygamy, you know anything.
You may be interested in what some of these people have to say.

I think they are both good! Well it does depend what start trek, I am more of a next generation fan.
The new star trek movie was pretty fun too but it may of had the more swashbucking style.

Mattie's likely a sock puppet troll. Probably stem looking for more attention.
