Chastity is the avoidance of all sex. Celibacy is the avoidance of marriage (legal or otherwise... sexual relations with another person). Priests take a vow of celibacy. Easy to figure out.

wow I didn't realize that. So do you think most catholic priests are having sex?

The moment I read this, I thought, "That's not true. It just means no sex."
So I did a search, and sure enough, according to wiki you were right (although if you look at a dictionary definition, it will list sex abstinence first).
So I guess in this context, sexual relations = marriage. I suppose that makes sense given that you can have a marriage annulled if it hasn't been consummated.
Thanks man. Learn something new every day.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Mostly with themselves (which I image they would have to confess and be absolved of). Except, of course, the ones we're hearing about so much in the news lately.
I don't think there are many young males (priests or otherwise) that can go too long without some sort of sex. It's just not healthy.

I just read today that 69% of priests and 49% of nuns have some kind of sexual relations. Shoot, now I need to go back and read it again.

Sorry to put you through some extra reading, just me.
My original source for this was a Catholic priest that I ran into in a bar in SLC. The "Dead Goat" (don't know if it's still there). It was a place where hockey fans would gather after Golden Eagle games.
After more than a few beers (I love that priests drink a little too much) the subject turned to priests and sex. That was his answer... "We vow celibacy, not chastity". That's all we could get out of him :).

If you're a priest and having sex with yourself, you should just be able to confess to yourself and then bestow forgiveness on yourself.

Just a theory...
Hey Morely!
That would definitely make life easier for a priest! I think, though, that they are supposed to confess their sins to other priests, as well, for absolution.
I believe Protestant ministers can write their own ticket. That leaves the field of discretions wide open for them.
