Re: Is Persecution Complex taught?
People are backed into a corner sometimes ont his type of question. I've seen all sorts of people from all walks of life who claim they are being picked on, and in some cases they are.
Sadly around message boards like this, people can whine about complain about the individual often in place of speaking on topic. I've seen when someone calls someone on it, the most often tool used to combat anyone from responding to personal attacks is throwing out the term "persecution complex". It doesn't even have any meaning on boards like this anymore though. To call out people for attacking people instead of conversing on a topic isn't claiming persecution. That's just silly.
Anyway, that termis thrown around here without any basis half the time. Not one person, from what I've seen, has ever claimed to be persecuted here.

You don't whine about being persecuted for your LDS beliefs? really?
If you are saying that pretend LDS posters (like yourself) are not persecuted here, then i agree....i am just surprised to see you admit that....

Re: Is Persecution Complex taught?
Continually claiming that a person or persons is being "personally attacked" is a form of playing the persecution card. Just from a different angle.
What I find really interesting is when a Mormon can't defend their position, they usually employ one of two approaches. 1. Attack the person making the assertion (i.e. Personal attack) 2. Play the persecution card. In fact, many times, both approaches are used.
Another interesting thing is, when a Mormon makes a personal attack, they don't see it the same way as when someone else does it to them. Instead, they are using it as a diversion, to get away from the topic at hand.
Whine me is a perfect example of this.

One does not need to say "I am being persecuted" to display a persecution complex. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20770&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&p=509877&view=show#p509877

The persecution taught by the church has been co-opted by internet mo's over time, however, as a way of deflecting personal criticism. It is exemplified every time someone says they're attacked because they are LDS rather than the reality that they were attacked for saying something nonsensical.
Not talking about anyone in particular... just a general observation. I suppose I should give it a good mopologetic name, however.
How does "The Stemelian Turn" sound?

God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

"Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed! Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about! Did you see him repressing me? You saw him, Didn't you?"--every believing Mormon on the Internet.

Mormons can recite lots of examples of when they and their religion have been persecuted. They are slightly more forgetful about the times they and their religion have persecuted others.

They get upset when you remind them that they killed many times more protestants than vice versa.
