I just gave this a little thought. Do you think this means that only 69% of priests and 49% of nuns are honest in responding to poll questions?

I understand why you speak so blithely about this, but I can assure you that, generally, being contrite and repenting is a much deeper issue than you are representing here.

I'm confident the same is true for my RCC friends.

for what it's worth.

I'm sorry, I got my stat wrong. Here is from the article:

Nuns do a better job of fulfilling their vows of chastity than priests. Baumeister cites a survey of several hundred clergy by Sheila Murphy in which 62% of priests admitted to sexual activity, compared to 49% of nuns.

Notice it says vows of chastity...I do not have any way of knowing if masturbation is included in "sexual activity" or not.

I understand why you find repentance a deep issue. Many of the ministers and leaders do not.

Jim Bakker, Jim Jones, Paul Crouch, John Haggee, Ted Haggard, Tony Alamo, Bob Jones, Jim Swaggart... the list goes on (a very long list).

I don't think there are many young males (priests or otherwise) that can go too long without some sort of sex. It's just not healthy.

If you're a priest and having sex with yourself, you should just be able to confess to yourself and then bestow forgiveness on yourself.

Just a theory...

Are you saying I'm a priest?

so "69" was just a Freudian slip?

How could you possibly know this? What standard are you looking for? My suspicion is that it's an impossible one, but I'll let you explain.

It's amazing to me how atheists/humanists/agnostics/ can be the least gracious of all.

Wow! I hadn't thought of "69" as a reference to sexuality in years. You must be nearly as old as I am. Poor guy.

I'm truly sorry if I seem ungracious. In the real world (outside of board chat) I try very hard to be gracious.

The problem I have with all of these people is hypocrisy. For me, hypocrisy is one of the greatest sins.
