So I was having coffee with a student of anthropology last week, commenting on the work BYU has done in the past. He looked at me perplexed and asked what I meant. The dead sea scrolls I mentioned were brought to light because of the work of FARMS a couple of years ago. He guffawed and mentioned, as I had known and set him up for, Googles release of the dead sea scrolls online, a rather trivial activity the Church touted as its great gift to the study of Antiquity. We then launched into a discussion concerning the tenets of Mormon "scholarship" and the need to draw absurd conclusions between mesoamerican, native (north) american cultures, etc to the Book of Mormon narrative.

A cultural discussion within a cultural discussion, we delved into the need for self reinforcement of silly assertions via pseudo academic means, divulging reasons why nibley raped his daughter, Peterson further soils his already laughable credibility and Bokovoy continues to make an ass out of himself. (is Bokovoy still around?) What we came to was a conclusion that there was nothing in american culture that presupposes such silly assertions aside from things like the creation museum, etc.

So the steaming turd that is the formal institutionalized, funded wing of Mormonism, the Maxwell Institute is what we concluded would be the next domino to fall in an already weak and anemic apologetic arm of a failing religious oligarchy. Its coming down, and I just hope I will see it in my lifetime. No, it will never fully collapse, the last prophet being replaced one after the other by less and less lucid dumbfucks until the final nepotistic asshat is put in place as profit grabber, bottom line seer and business strategy replicator. He will empty his bowels into his depends on the conference stand, ask the last inbred family with 12 cleft palette children to turn the lights off in the conference center and run away with a giant big bag of money to disperse to the well connected families that have been milking you poor suckers for generations.
