My favorite scenes from the episode:

(1) Batista trying to explain religious faith to Dexter. Trainwreck.

(2) Dexter's dialogue with the guy who killed his wife who had a Jesus tattoo on his chest. "God forgives us!" "Okay . . . So, if I kill you, God will forgive me?" "NO!"

Also loved the thing with Masuka and the cute intern.

Agreed.

Worst line from episode 1: "Hammer time."

My prediction came true about Deb being promoted to Lieutenant over Batista!

I think he is genuinely happy for Deb, but is worried that she is being played...which she is.

That being said, I do think that Deb will do a good job, and it is an interesting twist.

It looks like Quinn and Deb are over...at least for now. We'll see what happens. I'm wondering if Quinn will try to win her back, or go back to being the party boy.

I'm also wondering if Batista and Deb might possibly get together. Of course, that would make Masuka mad. He has always had a thing for Deb. It looks like he has his hands full with the new intern, though. I think that something might develop there.

My favorite line tonight was from "Brother Sam"..."You don't fight like a lab geek!"

I love this season so far!

I agree, Liz. Good episode, interesting ideas developing.

The Brother Sam character is a great addition and he is being written for very well in my opinion. I really hope they keep his character from becoming an obvious wolf-in-sheeps-clothing or the opposite. Right now, he plays very authentic as a reformed criminal who is repentant and living dead to the world, but reborn to the cross as it were. And even better it isn't clear where they will take him, and I like that.

Hanks' character is also interesting and there are many ways I could see this going.

My prediction for a future episode cliff hanger - the new intern will endanger Dexter's cover somehow. She's too intelligent and inquisitive to miss all the things that Dexter gets by Masuka all the time. The writers are setting that up I think.

Interesting theory, Honor! I think you may be right! Dexter has had it pretty easy the last couple of years as far as no one on the force suspecting him. That could add an intriguing dimension. It could also put Masuka in an uncomfortable situation. He and Dexter are "best buds". And, if he becomes involved with the cutie intern, he may have to choose loyalties.

Bumping for me and Honor.

My current theory....I think that the buyer for the Ice Truck Killer hand is Lila. We will find out that she is actually alive.

What a twist that would be. I really don't want to see Musaka get into trouble for the ITK hand being stolen. Hopefully, Dexter will find out first.

Formality done.

Now - Holy crap!!! Brian! I did not see that coming, but it is an awesome move on the writer's part!

In a way, I really liked how the writers kept Brother Sam's character whole all the way to his death. Mos Def may be my favorite guest actor now. I loved John Lithgow two seasons back, but I thought they could have written his character in a bit better. As the role model for Dexter's quest to be both a family man as well as a serial killer I thought the writers ultimately failed.

Not so with Brother Sam. Having him die without maring the character made him complete. I see him now as the good angel who had his turn on Dexter's shoulder. And now - Brian's turn!

I have to say this is the best season, in my opinion, since season 1. Not to mention the interesting way it's tying in old threads, I don't think Dexter has killed anyone with the ol' tried and true knife-to-the-chest yet. That was actually getting weird when the first season had him being a little more creative. And called into question why his tool wrap has all that other equipment in it when all he seemed to need was a scapel and his knife.

So Liz, if you are right and there is another ghost from Dexter's past who bought the hand, then this could really get interesting.

Dexter: I'd rather prey ON him.

I have been enjoying this season, although after so much disappointment, I'm still guarded in my enthusiasm.

Episode 6.6 was one of my favorite episodes in the entire series. Brother Sam was the real deal: a religious believer who was sincere about his faith and held true to the end, but was neither preachy nor evil nor self-righteous nor naïve. I was saddened by his death, but not disappointed by it. I love that his last wish was for Dexter to forgive Nick and tell Nick that he forgave him for shooting him. I'm hoping that he makes a return later this season as one of the specters in Dexter's head, a voice of conscience for Dexter.

Thematically, it was such a strong episode. There's something dark and poetic and wonderful about Dexter killing Nick by drowning him in the spot where Nick was baptized after giving him one final chance to repent. As a Christian, I find myself asking: who really got it right? Dexter (who opted to kill Nick) or Brother Sam (who wanted to forgive Nick and let him go)? Brother Sam did what he was supposed to do and forgave Nick; was there room for Dexter to then act as an agent of God's wrath and let justice be served? It's rare that a television show gets me thinking like that.

I enjoyed how Travis Marshall turned away from his darkness and released his victim just as Dexter embraced his own (and was greeted by Brian as he came out of the waters of his own "dark baptism"). I wasn't expecting that.

Episode 6.7 was nice to see Brian again and hear his comments on how Dexter's life has changed over the course of the last 4.5 seasons. I like how they ended things for Jonah Mitchell. I'm glad he wasn't really following in his father's footsteps. Then again, he did kill his mother in a fit of rage, so maybe he has his own "dark passenger" after all. That said, I felt like the episode left something to be desired. I guess 6.6 was a hard act to follow.

Deb & Quinn - I can't help but feel like they're setting us up for tragedy. Like, they'll get back together at the end of the season, and then one of them (probably Quinn) will die.

DDK - Is there any chance that he's not going to grab Travis' sister for his new "Whore of Babylon" victim?

Was Dexter on this past Sunday (12/4/11)? I have to watch it on VOD and it seems that the newest episode is not posted.
