Anybody miss church here?

Post by _Rambo »

Here are things I miss about church.

Food at every activity I went too.

Cute girls that were easy to get to know and date.

Thinking I know God has a plan for all of us.

Crazy testimonies that made me laugh.

Camping with people that actually want to do some hiking rather than just sitting there drinking.

Being able to agree with my family.

Having people look up to me as an example.

I miss wearing a suit sometimes.

Board games! Not to many of the non Mormons I know like to play them.

What do you miss about church?

I miss the church, but only because my nuclear warhead targeting system is on the fritz.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Hmmm, I haven't been to church in a while, but I still experience a lot those things in the non-LDS circles I run in (board games, camping without just sitting around drinking, food at activities).

Yeah I am yet to find people that like to hike instead of drinking and camping. I'm sure there is a group to join in the city but I don't know if I want to do that.

Most of my non Mormon friends only play board games when it is a drinking board game.

Yeah there is food at some of the activities I go too but it still doesn't compare to the way Mormons do it.

Hard to miss it when I still attend.

But, I miss feeling like I have a readymade group of friends who get me.

Luckily I have found people who get me, it's just not readymade like it used to be.

pep. That's something I can probably do without.

Cute girls that were easy to get to know and date.

I can't imagine missing that too much now that you can find a gal and actually...

Thinking I know God has a plan for all of us.

that's not too hard to accept again, even sans church. If ya miss is, then go get it.

Crazy testimonies that made me laugh.

These wear on ya. Let's say I stopped going for a while and decided to come back. I'd say not listening to "crazy" testimonies is what I'd miss most.

Camping with people that actually want to do some hiking rather than just sitting there drinking.

Ouch. Your new buds sound a bit like duds.

Being able to agree with my family.

That's fixable too. I mean does your family love some of the same things as you? Go with that. You can easily agree with some of the simple things and go from there.

Having people look up to me as an example.

Weird. I wouldn't expect this. Who wants that?

I miss wearing a suit sometimes.

Go toss one on right now. wear one tomorrow. Over dress sometimes. It ain't gonna hurt no one.

Board games! Not to many of the non Mormons I know like to play them.

Talk about driving me batty.

What do you miss about church?

nuttin'. But I go too often to have that feeling.

Ooo, I had missed this one on your list Rambo.

Having people look up to me as an example.

This is actually really one of the things keeping me from leaving. I have always had people tell me that they looked up to me and things like that. It was part of my identity and I derived some self-esteem from it. It is incredibly difficult knowing that people will think poorly of me when they know I don't believe. I've already experienced it from the people I have told. It hurts a bit everytime.

I'm also a first-born and a rule-follower. I was the goody goody of my siblings. It's like I have to try and figure out who I am without the "TBMness" of who I was.

No my friends are fun, they just aren't into hiking.

Being able to agree with my family.

Yes there are things we can talk about but it's just not the same relationship I use to have with them. I do miss that. Expecially when some family members talk mostly about the church in their conversations.

Me too just me, I was always the goody goody rule-follower and people were really shocked when I told them I am not going to church anymore. I had some people tell me that they would look up to me and that I was a good example to them.

Just the other day I was having a conversation with my cousin. We were talking about all the stuff lately that has been happening in our family my cousin is getting a divorce, my uncle is in jail, and then he said and you Rambo don't go to church. You know how much that hurts that I am looked down upon as a failure because I don't go to church. I know the family looks that as a flaw in me but to me it is not a flaw at all and I am fine.

One time I had an interview the one of the councelors in the stake presidency. The first few words he said to me was Rambo I hear all the good things you are doing in the singles ward and you know you are effecting a lot of people. Well I said I just try to be a good person and treat people how I like to be treated. Really I still live by that motto. Well unless the people are crappy to me.

Being a dissapointment to friends and family was the hardest part of leaving the church.
