Zing!
Some Schmo wrote:Ah, so you're right, and by stomping your feet and insisting I'm wrong about the elephant in the room, you can chalk it up to me not providing references (which I already showed in the other thread when you couldn't help yourself). I wish that elementary school BS worked in real life.
I didn't see any references that I haven't already directly engaged. Please link to these references and I'll be happy to respond in full.

Holy Obtuse, Batman!
Here, let me spell it out for you:
1) You contend that using the term 'atheist' a particular way (which may or may not be how the word was originally devised - not relevant to this point) is only done for rhetorical purposes
2) If we attribute certain things to your world view based on what you call yourself, we are in error because it may or may not capture all the details of what you actually believe and what you reject, and therefore, our overall argument/judgment is invalid (which sounds just like rhetoric to me)
Hmmm... yeah, I don't see any hypocrisy there at all. What was I thinking?
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Yes.

I never said this. You simply asserted that I would do this, and when I invited you to go ahead and define "theism" you didn't bother. Instead you insisted other people had already done what you described and then barked at me for not having seen it.

You're attributing a position to me that I've never advocated. There's no hypocrisy at all in my approach.

You're full of crap. You just did it today in the other thread.

This is how I essentially view who an atheist is. The world of people are divided into 2 camps (since we have a lot of theists living). There are the theists and all others outside that group are atheists ..that is without a god belief....whether or not the individual has ever actively considered a God/God's existence. Technically a baby would be an atheist and so would someone who has never heard of or capable of considering a God's existence and any other variations of absence of God belief one can think of. Atheists are the default position to an active believing theist. The concept of atheism wouldn't exist without the concept of theism.
One can consider or argue about the why's of an individual not believing, i.e. they are a baby and haven't the capacity to hold beliefs, or they have never been exposed to the concept of God, but if an individual is considered functioning & living..and they aren't in the theist camp then they are without a theist belief and are technically an atheist.
One can refine those 2 positions theism and atheism further into more sub groups..to more precisely and fully represent an individual's position with respect to God belief.

No I didn't. I'd invite you to prove me wrong by linking to it, but you obviously can't, so you'll fall back on the old, "if you're too stupid to know then I'm not going to blah, blah, blah, dumbass!" schtick.

I don't believe that Moses split a sea in half. I believe that Jesus rose from the dead and that he lives. I believe the scriptures are the word of God. What exactly that means, I don't know. Irrespective, you don't get to tack all of fundamentalist Christianity's kooky beliefs on to my beliefs and point at the sum.

This doesn't at all approximate the accusation you leveled at me, and you can't even begin to show otherwise. I stated that because it is a factual error. I do not accept all the beliefs promoted by modern readers of the Bible. It is thus factually wrong to insist that one can tack my beliefs on to all of fundamentalist Christianity's beliefs and point at the sum as the total of what I am responsible for. Either you don't understand my claim, you don't understand your own accusation, or you're just lying. I honestly don't know which it is. You spend too much time acting like an eighth grader for me to figure out how much is ignorance and how much is dishonesty.
