Two Josephs Theory
Mormon thought has traditionally held that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and some Mormons even hold that Joseph later occupied the calling of the Holy Ghost.
Others hold that Joseph was a man of many flaws.
I was wondering:
1. If perhaps there is a necessity for a Two Josephs Theory
2. If this theory was presented in the new Mormon Studies Journal (formerly known as the FARMS Review) whether a following of adherents might develop.
Any input on this matter?

Re: Two Josephs Theory
What are the two Josephs required to explain? The one Joseph who loved Emma and was faithful to her, and the other Joseph who was a philandering asshole? I guess that would explain a few things.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

No, some hold that Joseph earlier occupied the calling of Holy Ghost, not later.

Two Josephs is not a theory. It's a fact.
There's the Joseph LDS worship and the real one.

Yes indeed. There's this Joseph:

And then there's the real Joseph:

The "Fallen Prophet" fits better.

Do you have evidence Joe went down on all those women?

budda ping!
Good one.
I had a conversation with my wife once where I was explaining the "Fallen Prophet" theory to her. She's TBM. After considering that Joseph had "relations" with other women for TEN years without Emma knowing, my wife actually liked that theory. It explains the Book of Abraham, the Kinderhook plates, his affairs and all sorts of goofy stuff.

Then it may have been Joseph who descended onto Jesus in the form of a dove.
