Even though I am around Mormons all the time I am starting to forget what it is like to have a Mormon mindset.
For example the other day Mattie wrote about masturbation " This doesn't seem like too much to ask of a young man that wants to serve a mission. I'm surprised to see how many people here believe that asking young men to do this is completely unreasonable. Even oppressive. I don't understand that." At first when I read that I thought she really doesn't understand anything and what a silly thing to say. As I reflect on it more I realize I probably would have said the same thing when I was a believing Mormon. I probably would have understood how hard it is not to masturbate a little more though.
On my Facebook the other day a friend wrote "I hope Micheal Jackson makes it to the CK." I just burst up laughing at that because it just sounded so silly to me. But hey maybe Micheal wasn't a child molestor and she doesn't believe he is. The comments after that were interesting too. They are " Hopefully he repents and accepts the gospel haha" and " Does what he has in his heart count, b/c I think he did alot of good for a lot of people-just didn't know how to love himself" I was beginning to wonder if these people were serious about there comments but then I realized I might of made similar ones. I would've being thinking that God will judge him won't.
I think I will use this thread to remind me what it is like to have a Mormon mindset.
Anyone else find it is hard to think like a Mormon after you haven't gone in a long time?

I appreciate this in that its always good to at least try to understand where the other person is coming from--something that seems quite rare around here.

It's getting harder. I no longer have the magical thinking impulse (which took some time to fade even after I stopped believing), so I have to will it up if I want to communicate with a believer.

Yeah it's pretty crazy Stem. I think a lot of fights happen over this.
Like I took offense to what Mattie says but what she said is very reasonable. She came on a Mormon discussion board. If there were a lot of other Mormons on this board they would've agreed to what she said. Maybe that is why she finds are responses so weird and interesting.
I got to remember things like this when I am talking to my family and friends as well. I'm sure I say things that offend them when I really didn't mean to.
