Re: Joseph Smith Legacy (Consolidation)
I don't know if Mormonism leads to atheism more than other faiths. But Mormonism certainly brainwashes their members from the time they are born that all other churches are wrong. When you grow up believing all other churches are misguided at best, and tools of satan at worst, it makes it tough to overcome that condtioning. It is mormonsim or nothing for a lot of people. It was for me at least.

Hey DarkHelmet,
My experience tells me that this is a very, very common and consistent expression among many of my LDS friends.
Peace,

Is athiesm nothing? I never heard the expression it's Mormonism or don't believe in god. I think many Mormons feel that if they left church they would still believe in god.
I was shocked to find out that I don't believe in god after being out of the church for a bit.
So I don't think I am going by what the Mormon church said would happen if I left.

Our origins are no mystery, regardless of your position on religion. All of us came from our parents. :)

Not me. I came from looking at porn.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

I wouldn't call it brainwashing. The LDS church is a restoration church. A restoration church needs a reason to exist and to be restored. It is really that simple. The question is: were the churches that existed at that time of the restoration tools of satan and leading people in false directions? If the answer is yes, then a restoration was necessary. To find an answer to this question one must look at the christian religious tradition up until the restoration.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

I don't think that this is true. Many Mormons head over to the UU church because it is the polar opposite of the LDS church. But I think that many find that church lacking. Others head over to the catholic church because it also has a truth claim and a top down structure. They can find a home there within the truth claim and within the celebratory Mass.
Others can become atheists or anything else they chose to become.

I like the rich liturgy and other aspects one of which is you can be a good Catholic and ignore quite a bit of it in the process. :-).
Don't tell an opus dei member this, they may disagree with you. And opus dei has much power within the catholic church because of their loyality to the faith. Also, a priest would disagree with you. A priest would say that nothing should be ignored because your soul depends on it.
The catholic church has many more rules than the LDS church to follow. Not going to church on a sunday is a sin. Not going to church on a day of obligation is a sin. Plus, there are retreats and feast days to attend. And for motal sins one must go to a priest for a good confession. Then, there is the praying of the rosary and the saying of the divine mercy. If one lives the catholic faith, one is not too far from living the Mormon faith.
