Actually, there was a time during my earlier life in which I feared death exceedingly. I believed God would show a movie to the Universe of all my misdeeds, which oddly centered around the thing I lied to the bishop about. Hint: it starts with an M. I felt I could never tell him about all my experiences and thus could never ever be fully forgiven. I eventually resigned to believe that my I unforgiven deeds would show up on the silver screen and was okay with it. After a few years, the fear factor dies down and you become accustomed to it.

As a believer, death was a mixed bag.

quark, your M movie was playing the other night over at porn.com. Another viewer claiming to be one of your fellow workers kept posting a comment, "giggles, more giggles". I wonder what she thought was so amusing?

(Just kidding, of course!)

No one has any real faith in the afterlife. Fiction portrays the suffering Christ, the creation or end of the world, and the perils of unbelief, but fiction has never portrayed the afterlife, because nobody really buys into it or wants it. People rather, wish to continue living.

Hey, shouldn't a 60 year old believing man embrace prostate cancer knowing that in a few short months, he'll be 24 again and on the prowl in the world to come?

- If the afterlife is portrayed in media, it's only for a brief reuniting with loved ones and then nothing. As there is nowhere to go from here.

- If there is a reuniting with loved ones either in the "hereafter" or a loved one that was presumed dead but really alive beyond a brief episode, then the only point ever is to show that the person is not the same person they used to be.

No one accepts the afterlife or wants to. Those who dogmatically insist on resurrection and living with Jesus forever, really wish to continue their existence in the here and now as is, or perhaps with a few perks.

When a loved one dies, people really want to get over it, and accept its reality and not be eternally interlocked with the bastard.

All the bastards in this world cause me to pine for my afterlife. Yeah, take me Lord Jesus.

To the OP:

Not anymore is my answer when I became an atheist. It did for a long while and I had tremendous stress and sadness in my personal life for a couple years, but today it doesn't scare me. Frankly it makes me reflect from time to time and remember that this existence is the only one I have, and that I should enjoy it. What would be the point of eternal life? That seems so damn boring to me. So no I'm not afraid. I do find myself afraid of many uncertainties in this world, but not so much about there afterlife. This world keeps me pretty busy as it is.
