I don't see any mental gymnastics taking place in my comments on this thread. Just stating the facts.

Maybe you were asked about self abuse and just didn't understand what they were talking about. This Mission President seems to be pretty angry about the subject:

"come on, use your brain!"

He seems to really want these missionaries to share the dirty details....

The church is very right on one thing: Masturbation can most certainly lead to homosexual acts! Hellz yeah -- thank Jesus for that!! And, masturbation can also encourage a straight boy to want to poke a girl.

Yep, masturbation is a wonderful practice and so also are homosexual relations for those who have that orientation. The same could be said for sex between a man and women but that seems kind of gross to me these days. I can't imagine Brigham Young having sex with 20 different women. He was such a prophet-pig. Oink!!

Not to say that the area itself was charmed/pure. It was a rough place.

Notice that I said "charmed life in the church". Outside of church, like at school, it wasn't so much charmed.

I think you may have the wrong idea about most expereinces here. I never had troublesome issue/pressures growing about about it, though like in any ward the issue did come up and we were taught that it was wrong to do it. I hardly even remember most interview situations. The were pretty easy, and not something memorable other then the one time I was asked about masturbation and not having a clue what it meant. I just figured it was wrong and said no to the question. I suspect most don't even remember these questions. The church does lay the guilt on fairly thick compared to many other religions. The worst was the first day in the MTC. They had a special session for the new ones to lay on the guilt hard and then send you onto your BP for your first interview. In my group there was only myself and one other that came out without a tear. You could tell the rest had something to say. Interesting that the two of us got the leadership calls for our group.

The first time the bishop brought it up was when I turned 12. He asked if I "played with myself". He asked in such a wierd way I knew it must be bad, though I though he meant just general playing with no friends there. I didn't know what to say, so he waited a minute then assured me it was normal but that I should stop. I was sooooo confused. No more making hot-wheels tracks without a friend there? I eventually decided to ignore it.

In my mission interview with the stake president he asked "have you stopped masturbating yet". Funny, I had never told any church leader if I did or didn't...

He then asked me if I was homosexual. I said "no, but I'm willing to learn". He didn't laugh, but gave me a "pass".

It's the LDS Church that is obsessed with masturbation and "chastity" and "sexual purity," etc. The 2010 Church Handbook of Instructions tells Bishops and Stake Presidents that their parishioners' private sexual habits are appropriate, even required, topics for interviews. The CHI tells them to make clear to youth in interviews that they are to refrain "from any kind of sexual activity." It does not tell Bishops simply to ask young people if they keep the law of chastity; it says refrain "from any kind of sexual activity." For bcspace, the CHI is an official church publication printed by the church and approved at the highest levels of church governance. And that's where Bishops and SPs get the idea that it's not only to inquire into "any kind of sexual activity" of their interviewees, but mandated by the prophets and apostles who, presumably, are getting their marching orders from Jeebus himself.

Hi Equality,

I hope that you do not consider comments made by BCSpace as being A-typical of LDSdom. I do not believe for a minute that they are.

Love,
