The article by Dr. Persinger details studies about how paranormal experiences can be induced through electromagnetic fields, fields that can be found naturally, for example, in houses with bad wiring. The experiences detailed by people in these studies range from a sense of a “presence” to a sense of profound peace or “contact with the infinite,” to full auditory and visual hallucinations. The article also explains that these experiences are more common and more profound among people with high temporal lobe sensitivity. In other words, your propensity for temporal lobe micro-seizures may determine your level of “God experience,” which impacts your “God belief.”
I think there is a high probability that many people mistake many things for communication from God. If the minor and completely explainable things that have happened to me are the high water mark of God’s communication with man, we are all suffering from a delusion.
I skimmed this, and will read it all later. Fascinating! I wonder what the electrical readings would look like in the places the people in this thread had their spiritual experiences.

I was a couple of years ago just awake when my eyes were open to see a light shining in the darkness. I saw nothing but the light and yet heard a single word and knew to what that word applied. That literal insight which came by way of an open waking vision had a huge impact upon my life making the difference of enduring well under special circumstances that may have wrecked havoc in my life without that specific wisdom. I think the unusual manner of this revelation caused me to never forget what I heard so that it could be well applied as the need was great that I finesse things well. Which of itself is most remarkable.
How's the wiring in your house?

Does that mean all spiritual experiences before electrical wiring must be bogus? Or is the fact that spiritual experience pre-dates electrical wiring simply problematic? Perhaps there are electrical vortexes where if you happen upon them a god experience will occur. And according to ancient alien theorist all the great structures built upon the earth are located precisely on or near the nexus of these vortex anomalies which are landing pads where aliens spacecraft come to recharge and were reputed to be worshiped as deity by the locals. LOL These facts are well documented on the HISTORY channel by showing us photos of these structures all around the world.
Do you think spiritual experiences are influenced by the source of electricity?
Is it better to be mains driven or would a generator or battery power produce a similar effect? (I know from experience that battery power can give extreme spiritual experiences...)

Between electrical fields, hallucinogens in certain plants and spoiled food, temporal lobe seizures, and the human capacity to manipulate our own memories, I think that more than accounts for all the collective spiritual experiences of humanity, past and present.

LOL, could be - I only skimmed the article. Maybe it says. I think certain frequencies are better at stimulating this sort of brain activity in those who are susceptible.

Another team tried to replicate the experiment but didn't get the same result. They say the entire result is explained by the participants' susceptibility to suggestion, not their susceptibility to electrical fields.

Hmm, if it's not replicable then I'd have to side with the second team. I still need to read this when I have more than a minute or two free at a time.

My understanding is that Joseph was quite good at this, and followers tend to be even better since they already believe.
When your father called to tell you about your grandmother, did you tell him about your interaction with your grandmother? If so, what was his response? If not, why?
Thanks, Mad
