On the theme of whether Mass in a Catholic church is likely to be more interesting than going through the LDS temple, and in particular on the question of variety:

While there will always be a common core to any Mass, there are a number of elements that change significantly from Mass to Mass - the gospel of the day, commemorations of saints, liturgical changes as the ecclesiastical year progresses, and so on. The Mass even looks different as the colors of vestments change seasonally.

Am I right, however, in thinking that if I go to the same temple each time, I shall watch exactly the same film over and over again, and hear exactly the same words said, over and over again, without variation for the rest of my life?

That sounds mind-numbing. How do devout LDS deal with that?

(Myself, I don't believe in any religion nowadays. But I can't imagine adopting a religion whose central rite is apparently, well, so samey. Of course if I thought it was true, I suppose I'd be stuck with it.)

why don't you head over to the former catholic member site and preach to those who left the fold. I think that you will discover the same crowd saying what the antimormon former Mormon crowd says here with the only difference it is the catholic church they are moaning about.

You'll never see me say the Catholic mass is always interesting. Sometimes it is done beautifully. Sometimes not so much. Some LDS sacrament meetings are more interesting than others.

As for the Catholic Church and its history, I'll paraphrase Billy Graham. He says if you ever find a perfect church don't join it because as soon as you do it won't be perfect anymore.

A big difference between mass and endowment.

Endowment: for celestial glory
Mass: for a path

The Mormons took worship to a new height. Catholics took a heightened worship down to the people. Pros and cons, I suppose.

When you see regular people; moms, grandmas, youth, etc. all helping with the most sacred part of the ritual, it gives it a real down to earth feel.

The hypocricy on this thread makes me puke. I think that it is great that quark had his experience but to see the antimormons lauding over the catholic mass and catholicism makes me sick. But then again, I am not an antimormon.

Do you think they will blow upon reaching Hypocritical Mass?
