Why Bitch about MDB?

Today, on Thanksgiving Day 2011, I am thankful for, inter alia, MDB. I like a place where anyone can come and post any idea related to Mormonism. I like that anyone else can post a reply, taking exception to the idea first posted.

There are several who apparently don't like this. So much so, they complain that there is too much criticism posted here. Several come to mind, DCP, Schryver, Droopy, RayA, Simon Belmont, why me and stemelblow to name a few.

MDB is virtuous because it does not force or give safe harbor to one point of view or the other. For those that like a place where their view is under a protectorate, there is MD&D, timesandseasons.org, Moroni10.com, etc for the TBMs, or post-mormon.com, exmormon.org, newordermormon.org, etc for the ex-Mo's and other critics. I suppose several that once posted and read here but tapered off have found themselves increasingly reading and/or posting on another board.

So it makes me wonder, why continually bitch here (or as DCP prefers, religiously read the posts here but go and bitch about them on other boards where his fanboy base is more prevalent and he is not questioned)?

When I've tired of a job or a law firm, I've moved on. I've not just stayed there and bitched.

So, I think the chronic bitchers here are troubled by the fact that MDB exists at all, even if the chronic bitchers did not read MDB posts or participate here. Since those that do not like MDB may move along, and many do rather than bitch away here, why do some stay here if for no other apparent reason than to keep bitching about how they don't like how MDB has become. Are these people continually trying to close down ski resorts and softball tournaments on Sundays because it's not Church attendance?

Chronic bitchers about MDB, what is it that propels you to stay bitching here? Are you trying to hijack threads so that those who like MDB and participating here do not compare notes and share with each other what they know about Mormonism?

This chronic bitching seems motivated by people that do not want those that like and do participate in MDB to have any place to have the kinds of dialogue that draw those that like MDB.

Do you keep your bitchin' up as a tool to leverage more attention than your own ideas would otherwise muster?

Do you think coming here and bitching non-stop is what your apostle Ballard was encouraging?

1. "Trolling" - Some people just want a reaction, any reaction. The fact they can make someone else take the time to respond somehow makes them feel good about themselves.
2. A misguided sense of HOW to defend the LDS faith.
3. Anger outlet. (This one I actually understand- whenever I get a sales call in the middle of my dinner I take the time to get out my frustrations.)
4.They are drunk. (Or they are sober and angry because they wish they were drunk.)
5. We also seem to have a poster or two whose mental faculties will be different in the resurrection.

Trust in information on the web is being damaged by the huge numbers of people paid by companies to post comments online, say researchers.

Fake posters can "poison" debate and make people unsure about who they can trust, the study suggests.

Some firms have created tens of thousands of fake accounts to flood chat forums and skew debate.

The researchers say there are reliable ways to spot fakes and urge websites to do more to police users.

The researchers from Canada and China say paying people to post comments is an "interesting strategy in business marketing" but it is not a benign activity.

"Paid posters may create a significant negative effect on the online communities, since the information from paid posters is usually not trustworthy," they wrote.

That's a great set of questions, sock puppet, the answers to which I don't have either.

I imagine that it has to do with it being easier to shut down and shout down those on the opposite side than it is to legitimately defeat them on the level playing-field of ideas?

Well, I'd like to remind all the Tut-Tutters there is a Celestial forum in which Mormons can respectfully, and politely, express themselves. In turn, they can be respectfully, and politely, engaged in an exchange of ideas.
