The Great Mormon (Papilio memnon).

Did not see those really cool looking, I suppose, male and female Mormon Butterflies when I trudged through 80 pages of identifying pictures looking for the West Coast Ladies that were flitting about my Visitor Center flowers that still contain nectar for the busy bees when the Sun's upon them.

Bad news: Lumen Kishkumen has been forced by illness to cancel its remaining dates on the tour. Severus M. Kishkumen has come down with a nasty flu. We offer our sincerest apologies, especially to Shades and Runtu, and wii be offering full refunds on your free tickets or first dibs on tickets for next year's tour.

Regards,

Team Kish

I hope they get well soon! The flu is no fun around the holidays! They need to conserve their voices. Lots of warm water with lemon and honey. ;-)

wow! Thanks both Nightlion and ludwig for those amazing butterflies! I was curious about the Great Mormon butterfly's name, so looked it up. Wikipedia says this:

The common name is an allusion to the polygamy formerly practiced by members of the Mormon sect according to Harish Gaonkar, of the Natural History Museum in London:

... the origins of giving common English names to organisms, particularly butterflies for tropical species started in India around the mid 19th century ... The naming of Mormons evolved slowly. I think the first to get such a name was the Common Mormon (Papilio polytes), because it had three different females, a fact that could only have been observed in the field, and this they did in India. The name obviously reflected the ... Mormon sect in America, which as we know, practiced polygamy.

I would go yellow submarine when you get to the coast instead of the Carnival tours as they have had some problems with food. I'm sure local ward members will give you their chilli that is about to expire to help you on your way.

edit in: sorry but didn't see the tour was cancelled. Maybe someone can buy you out and continue the tour. Maybe DCP could get a donation drive going and pick it up with a FARMS program.

I think it's sad they just left the bus sitting in a parking lot.

I guess we should do something about this. Seems a shame to abandon such a fine tour bus.

I did not mind having to serve as designated driver. Hope nobody got bruised up getting knocked around when you guys started making up 'randy rounds' to that bus bus song. Probably could not explain how you got them the next day. Now you know.
