Re: Holy Ghost on vacation...again...
Why is the question of evil anymore difficult for the LDS Church than any other Christian church?
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

All our lives we are taught that callings are given based on inspiration from the Holy Ghost.
I cannot say that it is a comment on LDS culture. But it is a commentary on USA culture. Such abuse happens in many different types of situations and in this instance, it happened with a Mormon sunday school teacher. But on the other hand such abuse has happened in all faiths where adults are put with children. It is not an LDS thing at all.
What can we say of the catholic priests who molested children? Where was god in all this? Likewise for pastors in protestant faiths who have molested children or religious camp counselors?
Inspiration from the holy ghost does not necessary exclude people from doing terrible things to wonderful people. Such is free agency.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

This guy was called under Priesthood inspiration via the Holy Ghost - at least that is what we (LDS) are taught. This means (as the Bishop explains when interviewing people for volunteer positions) that God himself has issued the 'call' using the Holy Ghost to pass the message on to the Bishop.
This type of issue crops up so often that we can say with certainty that either the Holy Ghost is a very poor method for passing on messages or that God is willing to roll the dice when it comes to entrusting children to the care and attention of people with sexual attraction for minors.
(or the whole inspiration thing is just man made nonsense)

As despicable as this man is, let's as this though-provoking question - if Jesus Christ cares so much about children, then why did He not send the Holy Ghost to intervene in the calling of this sexual predator? Is Christ Himself not complicit in this terrible, terrible act? After all, look what he said!
Is it possible that maybe, just maybe, there is no continuing revelation beyond the lost keys to the car?

Well, lets take it a step further. During WWII many children were needlessly killed. Where was Christ then? Where was the holy ghost? Was Christ not complicit in all this? What about Buddha? Where was Buddha?
Unfortunately, people have free agency to be evil. We live in an evil world. Now it would be wonderful if all evil would disappear but...this will not happen at this time. What we can do is to try to change the world by putting in a different value system---one in which the human being becomes the subject and altruism replaced greed.

Why me, what difference does the holy Priesthood make in terms of protecting Mormon children from Mormon pedophiles?
A. A big difference
B. A small difference
C. No difference

When someone is called to such a position, he may be clean as a whistle. But then, such people can do extremely evil to others because of free agency. Now should the holy ghost strike this guy dead before he can do such evil? Maybe. But then again, our free agency would be comprimised and people would be falling dead all around us.
Or should god give assurances that all called to such positions will behave well and not do evil to others? Should god take away free agency and assure righteousness?

This sounds like you subscribe to the theory that God is prepared to gamble the protection of minors against the hope that people who suffer with pedophile attraction will choose not to offend when called by God himself to positions of authority over minors.

Absolutely nothing. Satan is very powerful at this moment and this is something that we need to live with. And why we all need to take precautions. Child abuse is widespread, especially sexual abuse. And yet, if one is religious, who do we blame for evil? Satan. What we need to do is to recognize this and not allow such evil into our own lives and prepare our children for the evil in this world and what they can do to personally avoid it and what they can do to protect themselves.

God is subcribed to allow free agency and today we are living in evil times. But we are warned about this. Unfortunately, we all need to be prepared and prepare are children for the evil that is in this world. And for us not to become apart of the evil in a direct way by doing evil ourselves.

How would you prepare your nine year old daughter for having a pedophile sunday teacher?
Also, do you think the child's parents are therefore culpable in this case?
