Benefits of going to church (Mormon)

It is time to assemble a list. I'm leaving my ego at the doorstep. Please enter with me.

1. The ritualized action of going to the same place at the same time to do the same thing strengthens family identity, cohesiveness and unity of purpose. http://www.deborahhage.com/articles/church.html
Remaining items on the list are of much less value.

2. Mormons have Adam-God doctrine, which explains a lot about the troubles of this world. This explanation is better than any offered by any other Christian religion. I'm being sort of snarky here but in all honesty, I believe it's a tragedy Mormons abandoned this teaching.

3. Attending the Mormon church makes breaking some rules so exciting. Coffee in the morning before we go and a cold Guiness in the evening! How rich is life!

4. For husbands with Garment-clad wives, there is nothing as sweet as sitting in the pew, imagining her with Gentile underpants on as you sing Come, Come Ye Saints. For the husbands with garmentless wives: I need go no further.

Please, feel free to add more! I'll be thinking about my list while we sit in (Mormon) church today.

Obviously, as a never-Mo, I don't have anything to contribute in relation to the question you pose in your OP, but I was interested (if you are willing) to see if you could elborate on your #2.

What do you mean by that?

Benefits of going to church:

1. You get to dress up and look fancy. People don't dress up much these days...

2. Get to listen to the children poke and pester one another out of sheer boredom.

3. Quiet time to write lists of things to do, things to buy, things to make, etc.

4. Meditate to the Mormon cadence coming from the pulpit.

5. You never know, you might be surprised with a calling they forgot to ask you to accept before announcing it to the whole ward.

My friend Mr. Ceeboo. Adam was just some normal dude and now he is God?! Crazy, I know. But, that would explain why he did such a bad job restoring the church in 1830s

How about this list:

Being with decent people who do mean well.

When in need, the LDS church and its members are there for you. Good to know who the help is.

Having the ability to worship together in fellowship

Meeting and socializing with people who do have decent hearts.

If this is your list, may I make a suggestion:

Just leave the church and head to a different church. You may find it more beneficial. Why bother going when one has a superior than though attitude.
