Governor Romney. Your church has endorsed the immigration policy known as the Utah Compact, and has urged political leaders in Utah to accept it. Critics of the Utah compact claim that it amounts to amnesty. What do you think about the Utah compact?

I'd just love to see Romney in a position where he had to slam a reasonable church position in order to cater to the right-wing loonies.

The way Romney panders shamelessly to the worst right-wing fringe just infuriates me, and makes it impossible for me to support him.

I think Romney is just being a realist. The crazies have the selection power at the convention and unless Romney can convince them the he shares their thoughts, then he will not be the candidate. Unfortunately, that also means he will have to jump through their hoops to get renominated.

He actually doesn't have to take their evil guff, once elected, according to prophecy. He will have the power to cut the string holding the Constitution and use the power of his Presidential Washroom Key to resurrect the Kingdom of Deseret. He can then ride into the sunset on a White Horse, knowing that he did his part and be blessed to the last of his days.

Just a thought.

I don't assume the laws are perfect. But I do believe in following the American system of government. If a faction doesn't agree with the result, they should legally try to change it. Right now they're just disregarding the law and getting away with it.

I see your point in that my logic didn't quite add up. But to me this obfuscation going on where we call people "right wing crazies," who object to giving the country away during bad economic times reminds me of the Church telling people to pay tithing when they get a paycut. My brother in law is a TBM ward clerk and it still amazes him how many tithing checks bounce.

Michelle Bachman was right to call out Newt Gingrich for being soft on immigration. What I think is crazy is talking about any kind of immigration reform when you can't secure the border in the first place. What difference does it make if you can't enforce the law? That's why I call it "reconquistar." America really isn't calling the shots. Latin America is telling us how many people we'll take and when we'll take them.

The Churchs immigration policy is lousy and I do think better of Romney for not following their lead. It shows he cares about common American people, not just increased profits or tithing dollars. At first I would have put Romney down with George Bush, another big fan of the cheap labor illegal immigration provides. But at least he's saying the right things now. At least Obama admits he wants to give the country away and is straight and upfront about it.

It is sad that people believe as ajax does. But that is basically most folks.

Illegal immigration is a loss to America to the extent that America is a welfare state. They take advantage of free medicine, education and other social services because the welfare state politicians have decided to offer that stuff.

Illegal immigration in a boon to America by reason of lower agricultural and other costs. Without illegal immigrants, you'd either not find most of the produce in your grocery store or it'd be five times as expensive.

Immigration restrictions are unChristian, uneconomic, unfair, racist, xenophobic and absurd.

Reagan would agree with me; he saw immigration for what it was and granted extensive amnesty. If you want to keep the brown skins out, don't arrest them. Help their countries fix their corruptiona and reduce barriers to trade.
