Okay, back from my first experiment.

It as was a little hard at first. I felt a little silly, praying on the toilet to Elvis. I've only ever prayed to the Mormon concept of God my entire life. But I forced myself to take it seriously (despite, you know, my location), and it was a good experience. I thanked Elvis for everything he did during his mortal ministry, for making so much good music and enriching our culture, and inspiring so many others to do the same. I asked that he help me to have a rockin' good time every day and to be true to the spirit of rock n' roll. I prayed to Elvis, and not knowing how to close exactly, I said "In Elvis' name, Amen." Maybe I should have closed in the name of Colonel Parker or Scotty Moore.

I honestly felt and still feel a bit of a spiritual high - you know, that feeling Mormons call The Spirit. I'll continue this experiment for a while and see where it leads. I didn't really expect to feel anything since it's all a little silly. Color me surprised!

Hey, at least I came back. Can't say the same for The King. :o

You need some to "heart sell" tm your prayer experience. Try love me tender, or watching jailhouse rock or some such.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

What I experienced was slightly different. I had all the usual signs that she was talking to me (peace, warmth, clarity of mind, even a deep sense of someone speaking to me), but in addition to that, I had felt a connection with a being that understood me better than the Bearded One.
Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

The Holy Sacrament.

Hey, welcome back Zeez! Glad you're here!

My experience was a more shallow. I just felt that chest-filling "spirit" feeling. I felt a bit elated, but not any deep connection. Of course, I've only tried it once so far.

Could you, given the...errr...circumstances, be mistaking relief for elation?

It's hard to gain a testimony of something if you can't help smelling a pile of crap.

Should doubt knock at your doorway, just say to those skeptical, disturbing, rebellious thoughts, I propose to stay with my faith, with the faith of my people in Graceland.
