Re: Best Website to Explain LDS Church Truth Claim Problems
The Maxwell Institute site is a pretty good start. In it you'll find many different LDS scholars touching on many topics you seem to allude to. I don't know if there is concesus quite as you seek. There are different ideas and opinions about how the tranlsation took place. the debate there is pretty robust, I'd say. Brant Gardner and Royal Skousen take opposing views but both, i think, Provide plenty of great ideas to consider.
Here's the link to Maxwell: http://maxwellinstitute.BYU.edu/
Fair topical guide has plenty of links to different pieces by some LDS scholars and some LDS not necessarily scholars: http://www.fairlds.org/apol/
Anyway, have fun.

Both of those sites are great for any believer looking to shed their faith. Thanks Stem!

Any indeed. That's why there aren't any LDS that go and read their stuff. We all leave, I mean have left.

I find the site doesn't address the real issues and they tend to ignore them and hope they go away.

In all serious, if your friend won't read anti-Mormon literature, FAIR is probably the best way to go. Apologists often do more harm than good by legitimizing issues that might otherwise be dismissed by TBMs as anti-Mormon lies, in their attempts to refute them.
One of my favorites. "Why yes, Joseph Smith did marry other men's wives, now let me explain why that shouldn't trouble you..."
Michael Ash's book is another fantastic summary. I've known several apostates who were given the book by their TBM spouses, hoping it would resolve their concerns. In almost every case, it was the TBM spouse who learned more from it--to the detriment of their own testimonies.

People looking for real answers tend to leave FAIR with a distinct sense of disquiet and dissatisfaction. The typical reaction is "THESE are the best answers they could come up with? Really?" It makes you think that there ARE no good answers, which is indeed the case.
For many of us (including me) FAIR contributed to our loss of faith. Frankly, Stem, I think the only reason you haven't left yet is you're not a strong logical thinker, and you can't recognize poor logic when you see it. You're a nice guy, though.

Guys, I don't know what more to say. The OP asked for a site that could provide LDS folks who are open about the issues. You guys disagree that there are apologists that are open about the issues. I disagree. Yiptey. I was just trying to help. Of course you guys are biased against Maxwell. Somehow its all bad because you don't like Dr. Peterson or something.

Stem, I think we all agree that FAIR and MI are both in line with what we would suggest to those struggling with their faith. No one is complaining about your suggesting. It's a great way to help people leave Mormonism!
