Re: Christians are Cheap Bastards?
Schmo,
Some Christians have already spent all their disposable income on Church before stepping foot into the restaurant. Maybe we should re-label them as "spent" instead of "cheap".
Also, keep in mind that a poor waiter can head over to the Ward building and enjoy a nice Christmas dinner on the night of the Christmas Ward activity. I'm sure the local members of the Ward would truly appreciate seeing this nevermo waiter. I also bet that a free dinner is almost as good as a tip for his services.

Zee.

Really?
You're suggesting that all Christians are cheap?
:)

So what you're saying is that it's not necessarily christians, just dumb asses?
Yeah, that makes sense.

They need to stay home then. As I've always said, if you can't afford the tip, you can't afford to eat out.

Heh... what waiter wouldn't love a good shredded carrot filled green jello?
Well, there's my wife... she'd rather starve than set foot in any church. Although, we're not poor. Who knows how she'd feel if we were? She might even find Jesus if she were hungry enough!
(I wonder if I'm onto something there...)

Schmo,
You are right. The message that comes with the command to pay a full tithe should be: "If you lose your disposable income to tithing, do not splurge on food. Do not eat out if you can't afford a decent tip."

Yeah, that makes sense.
So what you're saying is that not only do you tip well when you eat out, but you need a booster seat.

Maybe they are rich but they are also, obviously, stupid.

Some of them are both very well educated and suprisingly intelligent. I think that it's more of a function of cognitive disconnect than anything else. They treat church as part of their social life, their work as their professional life, and the two don't overlap much.

Yeah, but they would never say something like that. They always spin the tithing message to make it sound like paying tithing makes you rich (god's just waiting to print money to your bank account the moment he gets the word you're a full tithe payer). The last thing they want to do is make you think about sacrifice when talking about giving to the church.
Funny how they can't think along the lines "tithing isn't my money, it's the lord's" but heaven forbid they think, "the tip isn't my money, it's the server's."

Cheap bastard. Did you, at least, scribble John 3:16 on the napkin?
I like to tell the waiters the creation story and about Noah's flood. They always appreciate that instead of a tip.
