Is this shifting of money from rich wards to poor ones global? Would it be fair to say that we gave up many of the organized activities we used to do here in the United States (road shows, dance festivals, area and Church wide sports competitions etc) because we are paying for ward houses & temples in Central and South America?
Yup. It's the same reason why missions now have a uniform monthly cost.

This is very selfish I suppose but if it was my decision I would not given up those activities so more buildings could be built in other countries. I compare the youth church programs that my kids grew up with to what I had and realize how much they missed.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Like I said, it's as if someone is trying to destroy the church from within.
