Pahoran has left the building

Someone banned Pahoran? Seriously?
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Probably just kicked him out of a thread.

Not banned under his member profile so probably just a thread kick.

I would have linked the thread..... but at the TIME of my making my posts here, MA&DB was having issues, so couldn't get it. Also, have to clear my cookies in order to be able to get logged out....., couldn't at the time.

by the way.... In reference to what BCSpace wrote above, he is correct, but his comments also refer to the preferred "anti's" of the board, not only the preferred LDS.

It is clear with their latest comment that they are trying to make the board an "elitist" board.
Just look at their keeping Xander. He's supposedly "trying" to be good, but "I" wasn't? But, he's being kept because he "elevates" the "intellectualism" of the board.

Sickening display! :(

Obiwan---I mean, ldsfaqs---I am very happy to know that with the behavior at MD&D you have described on this thread, their arbitrarily banning you, and their creating an environment where fatuous ideas and heretical theories are free to blossom without fear of being subject to critical thinking, you still feel that MD&D is "more moral."

It certainly says a great deal about the intellectual vigor of the thoughts expressed there that they can only flourish when stifling, agenda-driven moderating is present.

My comment is that they "traditionally" have been more moral, because the slime was kept out.
Further, you confuse your and other anti-mormon slander as being the same as respectable intellectual rigor and discussion. MA&DB was and is a good example that your idea is a lie, because all the issues could be discussed there without having to be in the "gutter".

That's one reason I always liked the place, and still like it. Unfortunately, those who run the place lately have crossed the line and become the very evil they were once against all in the name of "respectability" and "quality".

My actions didn't rise even close to the "low class" that the Forum traditionally strived to keep out, and to keep things of a higher quality, which made the place a good place to go above the rest of the internet. But, to ban people for something so non-immoral, shows how really far they have fallen from the spirit and intent that made the place a good place to go.

Further, to be fair, they are equal opportunity banning, so it's unfair of you to say that they are "stifling intellectual vigor". Both sides and all intellectual views to a degree are still being represented. Of course, one problem with that, is while I may not have been one of the "elite" they want to keep, I often added a good additional perspective and truth, filing in certain holes for things, that many either do not notice or mention. Thus, they've really done the board a disservice by banning those like me. But, that's not the important issue. I didn't and haven't actually ever done anything wrong to deserve being banned, thus that is the REAL problem there.

Calling someone anti-mormon and providing intellectual evidence and reasoning as to why is also not a reasonable bannable offense, which is something I did previously (and was warned) to the anti-mormon Mike Reid. His position was anti-mormon, and I pointed out why. Just because he spoke at some LDS event doesn't mean he wasn't an anti-mormon.

In what way were they "moral"? How are you defining "moral"?

Further, you confuse your and other anti-mormon slander as being the same as respectable intellectual rigor and discussion.

Slander is a false statement that is spoken. Since the words on a message board are typed, I think what you mean to say is "libel." However, you are certainly free to demonstrate that I have made false statements about the LDS Church. Unlike MD&D, the moderators are not going to bail me out if it starts to look like I am losing the argument.

MA&DB was and is a good example that your idea is a lie, because all the issues could be discussed there without having to be in the "gutter".

What does "the gutter," which you put your own scare quotes around, mean?

That's one reason I always liked the place, and still like it. Unfortunately, those who run the place lately have crossed the line and become the very evil they were once against all in the name of "respectability" and "quality".

Quality apparently meaning that stupid ideas are okay, as long as we don't use bad words.

Ldsfaqs, by "non-immoral," did you mean "moral"? Does "low class" and "immoral" mean something other than "not faith-promoting"?

Further, to be fair, they are equal opportunity banning, so it's unfair of you to say that they are "stifling intellectual vigor".

No, you are misunderstanding. Freedom of speech, without moderators deliberately skewing the substance of a debate in a certain direction, is how the intellectual vigor of an idea gets tested. Droopy likes to call this the "free marketplace of ideas," although, much like crony capitalists, he appears to favor the free market so long as the marketplace seems to be favoring his personal value judgments.

Both sides and all intellectual views to a degree are still being represented.

"Both" sides? There are only two? And why only "to a degree"?

Why can't the erstwhile defenders of the faith at MD&D learn to ride with the training wheels off?

Of course, one problem with that, is while I may not have been one of the "elite" they want to keep, I often added a good additional perspective and truth, filing in certain holes for things, that many either do not notice or mention.

I think vigorously insisting "That's a lie!!!!" about documented, provable aspects of Mormonism belies that claim.

Thus, they've really done the board a disservice by banning those like me. But, that's not the important issue. I didn't and haven't actually ever done anything wrong to deserve being banned, thus that is the REAL problem there.

But still saying that you like that place, after all that you have said here, seems a lot like a "kiss the rod that scourges you" kind of mindset, if I may say so.

Calling someone anti-mormon and providing intellectual evidence and reasoning as to why is also not a reasonable bannable offense,

Is it your position that disputing certain aspects of the faith-promoting narrative is equivalent to actually persecuting the LDS people?

which is something I did previously (and was warned) to the anti-mormon Mike Reid. His position was anti-mormon, and I pointed out why. Just because he spoke at some LDS event doesn't mean he wasn't an anti-mormon.

Are you aware of Mike Reid persecuting the LDS people in some way, other than failing to affirm the truthfulness of their beliefs?

Hi ldsfaqs!

I had just noticed you were posting here, and I thought to myself, "Oh good, another one of the posters I really like from MA&DB is posting here, too!" I should be STUNNED that they banned you; unfortunately, I am not. Here's the thread I started here just last week, which is on the Terrestrial Forum. I don't know how to create the link (sorry Dr. Shades....), so I just copied it.

Post subject: I'll probably be banned from Mormondialogue
PostPosted: Thu Dec 01, 2011 11:42 pm

I finally told them "what for" after they moderated me yet another time and locked another thread because of my comments. So I think my days there are numbered....maybe today was it.

Well, I don't give up so easy; so I'm here at Franktalk's behest. Blame him if you don't like me being here!!!

Love,

jo a.k.a. jo1952

Now, the part I left out is that when I told them "what for", it was done through a private message to Ares. Also, my version of "what for" is pretty benign. But I had finally had enough of their so obviously unfair moderation methods, of which I had been a victim over and over again. I really think that I am an unobtrusive poster who tries very hard to be kind in my posts. For some reason, they took a disliking to me and kept moderating me for comments I really did not think were guilty of what they claimed they were moderating me for. In fact, it seemed they were hovering over me and the minute I would post, they would attack. The last straw was when they closed yet another thread after moderating me.

I broke the cardinal rule and actually sent them a PM to challenge their moderation - and even in that PM I tried to remain very honest, in the hopes (how naïve I can be) that they would actually "hear" what I was saying.

I was surprised, though, that when I kept going back to check to see if they had sent me a pm, or if they had banned me, that nothing had happened. Hahahahaha - that was until just now when I clicked on the link Dr. Shades provided so that I could read the thread and comments you had made which got you banned. Well, I AM banned - so it's official.

I don't like to be negative about anyone as I truly do love everyone - even the moderators over there. It is their actions I dislike - they have become like the very Pharisees they give the illusion of standing against. It truly saddens me that they believe they are shining examples of the LDS Church. At this point, I feel that they are doing damage to the Church.

by the way, I really am glad to see that you ARE posting here. Though I had joined here a few months ago, I don't think I had posted here until I started the above referenced thread. I had only joined because Franktalk had joined, and I finally posted after becoming frustrated with MA&DB. I have been on several different apologetic discussions boards; and I am being very much pleasantly surprised to discover that I think I have finally found a website which I can call "home". I would invite you to participate in the chat room. It is a great way to let your hair down - so to speak (don't know if you have any hair to actually let down).

I always very much enjoyed your insightful and nonconfrontational posts over at MA&DB. Welcome, welcome!!

Love,

jo

Slime like Pahoran are welcome here. Heck, slime like YOU are welcome here. We didn't even ban Will, and that's saying something!

Further, you confuse your and other anti-mormon slander as being the same as respectable intellectual rigor and discussion.

Freedom tends to do that, yes.

MA&DB was and is a good example that your idea is a lie, because all the issues could be discussed there without having to be in the "gutter".

Slime and the "gutter". And look! You're still allowed to post here!

That's one reason I always liked the place, and still like it.

The oppressed often cope with their situation by making excuses for the oppressors. You're not unique in that regard.

Unfortunately, those who run the place lately have crossed the line and become the very evil they were once against all in the name of "respectability" and "quality".

Oh, now, don't get all upset. Even I wouldn't call Juliann "evil", she being my 2nd counselor and all.

My actions didn't rise even close to the "low class" that the Forum traditionally strived to keep out, and to keep things of a higher quality, which made the place a good place to go above the rest of the internet.

Only if you enjoy being oppressed. Some of us tend to balk at that, but then hey! we're not all into aiding and abetting the oppresor.

But, to ban people for something so non-immoral, shows how really far they have fallen from the spirit and intent that made the place a good place to go.

Tsk, tsk. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. That's probably what happened... they reached their destination!

Further, to be fair, they are equal opportunity banning, so it's unfair of you to say that they are "stifling intellectual vigor". Both sides and all intellectual views to a degree are still being represented.

You said that with a straight face, obviously being serious. I'm still gagging, but there's no accounting for taste.

Of course, one problem with that, is while I may not have been one of the "elite" they want to keep, I often added a good additional perspective and truth, filing in certain holes for things, that many either do not notice or mention. Thus, they've really done the board a disservice by banning those like me.

Obviously they didn't agree with you. And now you're consigned to the "gutter' with the rest of non-"elite". How utterly galling!

But, that's not the important issue. I didn't and haven't actually ever done anything wrong to deserve being banned, thus that is the REAL problem there.

And thus, you join a large and illustrious group.

And yet he remains and you do not. That alone should give you a clue.
