What about imperfect angels?

Post by _zeezrom »

Do we agree that angels aren't perfect? They are not infinite in capacity, knowledge, or power. Angels have limitations like us, right?

They can make mistakes. What kinds of mistakes?

Errors in judgement?
Misrepresentation of statements made by God?
Miscommunication?
Bias?

I think we all must agree that since angels are not perfect like God, there is a possibility for errors in their performances and interactions with humans. Does God allow angels to use their free agency to interpret commands the way that suits them? Does God hold the angel's hands while they do their jobs or does he give free reign to them?

Why the hell do you care about such a frivolous idea, zee? Well, only because angels have always played a huge role in God's communications with mankind!

What if Moroni wasn't completely honest with Joseph Smith?

What if John the Baptist looked at porn right before ordaining Joseph with the A. Priesthood? Or, what if he didn't make Oliver do it over when he didn't get Joseph completely under the water?

What if Elijah really didn't come to Joseph? What if a different angel, by the name of Japheth, came and made Joseph believe he was Elijah? Maybe God was so embarrassed, he figured it would be better he didn't mention it and let it slide?

Nobody cares about these mistakes because they can't be discovered by us. Is that the only reason it doesn't bother you? Out of sight, out of mind. God's messengers are imperfect, causing imperfections in God's ways, causing essentially an imperfect God. Nobody seems to mind at all. So why do people *need* a perfect God?

Why?

Zee.

Maybe the angel with the flaming sword was just a horndog and made that polygamy crap up?

Maybe that angel just had a bad, eternal case of the clap?

By the way, zeezrom, did you watch "It's a Wonderful Life" last evening? Your post sort of suggests Moroni could be a bit like Clarence.

Since it is relevant. Joseph Smith used the whole fallen angels passage as a literal teaching that angels in fact did fall and have sex with the daughters of God. Unfortunately I do not have access to the source right now so I cannot post it, but i can recall that it was first hand from a significant journal of one of the saints during that time. This same journal I believe also had a copy of King Follet discourse and a few others.

xoloti, that's a new one on me. Please do post what the source is when you regain access.

If I recall correctly, the source was from George Laub’s Nauvoo journal. Joseph Smith was talking about the resurrection and then talked about genesis 6 and angels violating celestial laws and taking wives etc. I also recall the same reference mentioning how the tower of babel was built to get to the city of Enoch because it was apparently still floating in the sky and still visible to everyone. The text brings up a lot of doctrinal problems with the whole angels violating celestial laws and celestial beings desiring to sin etc. If i had a little more time I would find the actual source and quote it, but i know it can be found in a PDF format through google.

I better not promise anything, SP. I don't want to be a disappointment like last time. It is a looooong drive to Utah!

So, if I had to guess.... hmmm... how about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWIBdfd1uZQ

Thanks, zeezrom. I really like He Rose From the Dead. Thanks for the link. Very good guess, but my favorite song for Easter includes these lyrics (that I have it on good authority that Will Schryver is in awe of).

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead.
I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled.
I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread.
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I was crowned with a spike right through my head.
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a Gas! Gas! Gas!
