This is the sort of reputation the guy has crafted for himself, and it just shows you how warped the Internet Mormons on the ironically named Mormon Dialogue board actually are insofar as they are actually fans of this sort of thing. They're the folks who've been lapping up this brand of nastiness for over a decade now. The bulk of believing Latter-day Saints are sick of this sort of crap, and they realize that it just works to alienate people both within and outside the Church.

Interesting, Doctor. Perhaps the great day of apologetic power is waning as more LDS folk see what has been hiding in the corner all these years. Most Mormons I know simply want to live and let live; they aren't as defensive as the apologists who protect the Church as their self-appointed mission. A brighter day may be dawning. Sometime soon there may even be a viable Mormon presidential candidate who isn't a bizarrely defensive weasel.

I certainly hope so, Reverend.

Holy smokes. I just checked back in on the "Comments" section, and it seems that yet another nuclear-grade meltdown is underway. Wow, is this ever stupid on DCP's part. He's always alluded to the importance of the "low visibility" of his nastier moments on the message boards, and yet here he is engaged in the same song and dance on a venue like TIME. He's becoming a walking advertisement for the nastiness of Mormon apologetics. And humorously, he's trying very had to put as much distance between his "art criticism" (lol!!!) and his association with the Maxwell Institute.

I just looked in on the comments, too. Based on my interactions with and observations of DCP, his recent behavior on the now defunct Cafeteria board, and his current "display" on the comments section for this article, I say without hesitation that this is one of the least self aware people I've ever encountered on the Internet.

The most recent comments in that section effectively put (as we say in Jersey) DCP's crap in the street for all to see.

And he is likely oblivious to this.

Wow, poor DCP, not a board to post on any more, so he has turned to other public forums to make an ass of himself, his employer and his church ... you go man!

I am a little shocked at the comments. It really shows where the real hostility comes from in some of these forums and the only reason they ever even bother to take the high ground is because everyone constantly points out how out of step they really are.

I didn't read the captions to any of the pictures when i looked at the them. They were good. Everyone who was critical of the pictures really misread what was going on. What kind of idiot criticizes real life because it isn't close enough to how they think their version of reality should be? Another bold demonstration of how belligerently out of step they are.

At the very worst, they were some boring pictures of Mormons that should never have elicited a polarized response either way.

Was it Benjamin Franklin who said that only fools take offense where none is intended?

Clearly, DCP & Co. are fools.

by the way, I wasn't allowed to watch TV on Sundays. I know several families who had no television, at all. But, clearly, only Herr Doktor Daniel Peterson's anecdotal experience is the only valid experience in the entire world. I guess I should have skipped Nietzsche and Sartre and just jumped straight to his thoughts on their works.

Could anyone point out one of these unprovoked instances of nastiness? I read through the comments, and can't find any. Do you people believe that everyone is allowed to express their opinions except DCP?

Belmont,

If it helps at all, I think that many or most folks see his attempts at taking little jabs as the mediocre contributions that they really are.

I'm not sure what you mean, Jersey Girl, but I honestly am a bit confused.

I just reread the comments, and I did not find anything but a little sarcasm and mild criticism of the photos/essay. So what? Why is that a nuclear meltdown?

Simon, what do you think DCP's intentions were in commenting? I.e., if he only had negative things to say, what was the value in his saying anything at all?

Do you disagree that he was taking little jabs that render his contribution mediocre?
