Recent Tithing Letter from First Presidency

About a month ago, a letter was read in our ward by the bishop. It was from the First Presidency and dealt with tithing.

It started off by saying the First Presidency understands things are tough out there with the economy and all and people are having trouble making ends meet.

At this point, I was anxious to hear what assistance was going to be extended by the Church to its members to help with the situation.

I was disappointed as the letter continued to hear that, in spite of the First Presidency feeling our pain, members were directed to continue to give top priority to paying their tithing.

Something about this didn't sit well with me.

First, am I remembering this letter correctly? I wouldn't want to be misrepresenting anything, and don't have a copy of my own to reference.

Second, if I am remembering this correctly, how do the folk here feel about it?

Considering the blessings that are attached to paying a full and honest tithe, I, for one, am relieved to hear of the FP's inspired counsel, and I pray all will hearken unto it.

The cost overruns of the magnificent City Creek Mall were enormous, but the hand carved marble spawning area for the genetically engineered trout is a wonder of the modern world with its intricate detail and expressive frescos of Etruscan trout at their leisure. My favorite was the trout engaged in crab jumping. The elegant Sun-Star-Moon motif of the giant retractable roof is also worth an extra farthing in the tithing envelop just for the symbolism alone.

I swear before Jesus that I'll never go back to that cult again. I also swear that I'll never go back to Jesus again.

The Mormon church will live out its days untill the time comes when people say the latter-days are ended and it was a hoax. That might take a couple thousand years but the days of the Mormon church are numbered. Besides, it's only a matter of time before one of their prophets gets caught up in a child molestation scandal. It's bound to happen. The church will will bleed to death of both members and funds. They will be forced to sell off their temples to the highest bidder. I suggest we convert the temples to gay clubs in remembrance of Jehovah who was defeated and died with the end of the Old Testament. May Jehovah rest in peace, that sorry murderer.

Regarding the OP, what did you expect them to say? Perhaps that until unemployment gets below 5%, God would make the first 5% of tithing mandatory and the second 5% optional?

I'm quite certain you're skipping some of the actual language and sentiment, but you're also forgetting your Church history in which an early LDS prophet said tithing would bless the members who were in the throes of a drought. You also don't seem to believe in the blessings of Malachi 3 for tithe paying.
