Re: Happy Valley Photo Essay
Yeah, I don't understand why the apologists attacked that particular caption. Probably all of us either heard lessons in church about "keeping the sabbath holy," or else we knew families--or perhaps belonged to one--where watching TV, among other things, was forbidden. This isn't strange at all w/r/t to Mormon culture.
Here's the question, though: why would the Mopologists object to someone saying that? Are they afraid that the public at large will think that Mormons are "weird" for doing that?

This might sound flippant, but there has to be laws. Standards. I've literally know many police officers who by-passed the law and let offenders go, when they had every right to arrest them, not, of course, in regard to major crimes. It's called "use your head", and "you don't have to follow every rule in the guide manual".
Rightly or wrongly, I perceive that as being the real spirit of both Christianity and Mormonism. They are not dead, "rule-bound" religious traditions. If that were the case, the Church would have folded before the dawn of the 20th century, on the polygamy issue.

My view of a train wreck is someone who tries to bully everyone else into their opinion, like you do, and the prime tools of your trade are bashing, intimidation, mockery, scorning different opinions, or anything you perceive as “dogma not worth serious attention”, and generally trying to shut down any form of dialogue you consider “not worth dialogue”. You’re a bully, and you have the very same qualities you charge some Mormon leaders with. I’m tempted to call you the “Mc Conkie of Ex-moism”. You just traded one form of dogma for another, and you don’t see it. You lace these forums with hundreds of quotes that have now become a part of your “alternate mission”, not to convince, but to “deconvince”. You’re a total dogmatic bore.
Whatever you wrote here is certainly worthy of deep contemplation, Ray. It's unfortunate that everyone who says things you don't like is stupid, or perhaps they would understand it. Perhaps when everyone has sufficiently pondered your prophecies of impending doom and karmic justice for daring to say they think Mormonism possibly is not the one true religion, they will realize the error of their dogmatic unbelief. The same might be said of your UFO conspiracy theories.
When in Rome, you have to speak like the Romans do. That's the only way they understand.
Hai ragione. Se ci sono dei Romani che leggono questa pagina, spero che capiscano quello che ho detto. Inoltre, forse i Romani arriverrano ad una conoscenza della loro eredita' nefita.
Frankly, if I were you, I'd do some more reading of the past history of this board before commenting.
Indeed, the past history should be what we look at, as opposed to the future history or the present history.

On the other hand, there are Mormon denominations that still practice polygamy, and they have not "folded," either.

No TV on a Sunday = Inactivity?

Here in Australia, we have the same "dilemma" with the Rugby League Grand Final. Would Mormons watch the NRL Grand Final? You can bet your ass they do, and not confess it to the bishop (lol) (who probably watches it himself). Nothing wrong with that.
In fact, one of the main stars in NRL is William Hopoate.
William Hopoate to sign with Parramatta Eels.
Hi, I'm William Hopoate.
Do you think you'll ever see Will crapping on Mormonism? His father and uncle, the latter also served a mission, didn't. Now I suppose they could always go on a "DarthJ mission" to turn people away from the faith.

Or they could just be themselves, and thus be far more effective at turning people away from the faith.
Re: Happy Valley Photo Essay
You know, I have a kind of theory here, that Mormonism is actually becoming more understanding and tolerant, and it's not doing so because of what is posted here, but through thoughtful insider criticism brought on by more balanced-thinking souls within the faith.
Some of the bigots here would LIKE Mormonism to remain the same as it was in 1850, so they can heap criticism on it to their heart's delight, and post numerous quotes from the 19 damned 50s.
This is really a Fool's Paradise, this board sometimes.

Either would being you uncontrollable spasms of delight. As long as they leave the faith.
