Opinions *Before* I Start Writing Scripture

I have been commissioned by God to write a new book of scripture.

Since there are so many people here that seem to enjoy criticizing the existing scriptures, I thought I might as well ask for comments from you before starting. Surely I don't want to be criticized like the others have been.

See, this is where I think Joseph Smith went wrong. He put very little stock in trying to help us really understand *how* he got words from God. I think it would be extremely useful for the critics to see exactly how I go about things.

So, my severest of critics, bring it on. Tell me how you think I should document the process of scripture writing in a way that will help you believe in what I write.

PS - Does anyone out there have any recommendations on an interesting Starbucks choice? I'm standing here looking at their menu becoming quickly overwhelmed by the vast number of options. Note - I like it dark! (thank you for this as well)

You know, I'm just as surprised as you are! I suspect she might be sensitive about other people trying their hand at weaving...

I recommend you find the records of an ancient people written in a language no one has ever seen. Translate it by the power of god and then let him (oops her) have the record back so no one can verify the translation. Claim that the people of the record are the principle ancestors of another group to whom they have no, none, zilch genetic ties. Also claim that they are cursed with a dark and loathesome skin, but become white and delightful when they repent.

Have the record contain numerous references to technologies that did not exist among the people of the record, as well as plants and animals.

All of the inconsistencies and unverifiabilty require and promote faith.

That shouldn't strain credibility.

If you want brevity within your scripture then please resist using the phrase "and it came to pass" and other flowery old English language.

Also, if you can write it in the style of a whodunit that will help - but remember to include the finale, as current scripture just leaves us to add our own ending....

I'd have it from the people with who Jesus visited as the final destination on his main tour, where he gave a full and final summary of his rules.

Oh yeah. Wherever it is being based, do a bit of research into the locals from an archaeological point of view and keep out the foreign animals.

Arachne got into trouble for hubris. The Athenians wove a new peplos for Athena every year. I doubt she would be offended.

Don't make it predictable. If you have someone who receives a revelation, make it not come true. Nobody would expect that coming. Makes it more real.

Nothing is worse in a book than predictability. I was reading the dictionary the other day, had a feeling and flipped to the last page, and just as I suspected, the zebra did it.
