22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.(Ephesians 5)

“We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.” Keith McMullin - Counsellor in Presiding Bishopric
"One, two, three...let's go shopping!" Thomas S Monson - Prophet, Seer, Revelator
I think it depends on how you interpret the statements, "even as Christ is the head..." and "church is subject unto Christ.."
Fortunately, we are free to interpret those statements liberally. I would like to think that Mormon couples in healthy marriages do indeed take liberties with those statements.
How about this:
Christ is the head of the Church the same way two equal partners, sharing mutual respect for each other are very good friends.
Or this:
The Church is subject unto Christ the same way Mr. Darcy loved Lizzie.
We can hope. :)

That's the official doctrine, and it's echoed in dozens of lesson manuals. However, in practice, you don't see it implemented too much unless the husband is a major douchebag.

It used to be more explicit in the temple endowment ceremony, but the language was toned down in the early 1990's -- but even the current language seems to suggest this doctrine remains.
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."
-- Mike Quinn, writing of the FARMSboys, in "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View," p. x (Rev. ed. 1998)
