Simon the irony of you decrying the use of made-up words is almost unspeakable.

They aren't. They evolve over time.

Evolution, Simon?

You say words evolve yet people are created?

I'm guessing at the people thing, but I'm sure that as a good Mormon, you believe that Adam was created by God? Could you believe otherwise?

Please tell me, what did the word 'dog' evolve from?

Simon Belmont wrote:Not being LDS doesn't automatically disqualify a person from commenting on things LDS.

Not being LDS and having very little experience with LDS people, combined with often using the made-up word "mopologist" makes me call into question whether that person had the background necessary to wistfully look back upon "the days..." past of Mormonism, or of Mormonism current.

That's all.

MrStakhanovite did not say that he personally was wistfully looking back at Mormonism. He said that he believes Daniel Peterson is wistfully looking back at past days of Mormon apologetics.

MrStakhanovite wrote: I think DCP wishes for the days when the critics of the Church were cult ministries who preyed on people’s ignorance to make their own religious ranks swell. I think all of Dan’s over emphasis on his own literacy and writing skill harken back to the days when being able to read a biblical text in Greek or Hebrew alone would put you head and shoulders above your standard ministry leader.

But those days are gone; the cult ministries have become increasingly unpopular and have been replaced by more professional apologetic organizations, Mormon studies as a discipline is starting to come into its own and that maturity is attracting a wide array of people from various disciplines who simply don’t care if what they find and publish makes the collective MD&D and Mormon Apologist henhouse cluck furiously.

The attitude Dan has today worked really well back in 1997, but now the posturing isn’t impressive to anyone but his own fans.

There may possibly have been once or twice on this board where you have accurately characterized what has been said in the course of your having kittens about it. But I can't remember when those one or two occasions would have been.

It’s amazing that two posters can pass each other like ships in the night, maintain the same ludicrous ethical ideas, have the identical inability to defend or articulate, and be two totally different people.

Simon Belmont wrote:Oh, my mistake. I remember you saying have a girlfriend who has or had LDS parents, right? Also, you once had a passing conversation with Missionaries.

Conversations with missionaries are useless, there is nothing to be gained by stumping a 19 year old kid with age old problems. Besides, I’ve read Ed Decker, the original Mormon Studies scholar, and I know all I need to know!

But sadly, I’ve lost pieces of my soul in stake conferences and 3 hour block meetings, which was death by boring speaker.

Simon Belmont wrote:I see nothing untrue in that statement, which was obviously said in sarcastic jest.

Quote me where I said something was untrue. We’ve been making fun of DCP’s style for pages now, and you can’t even rub two posts together to get a few sparks of context?

Simon Belmont wrote:In a way, he was.

No, he wasn’t Simon. If you hadn’t made a bold face lie about having a Masters degree in Philosophy, your defense of this wouldn’t be nearly as sweet.

Simon Belmont wrote:If you don't think so, you should take some more Philosophy classes.

Yeah man…gotta figure how I really know the chair I’m sitting on is really there.

Simon Belmont wrote:For example, what was [Heidegger’s] position on whether or not [Sartre] interpreted his Being and Time?

WTF does this even mean? Can you have a position on whether or not Sartre interpreted a book?

Simon Belmont wrote:Now then, back to my point. What, specifically qualifies you to comment on Mormonism?

Ed Decker.

Of course, I know for a fact that Spurven is more educated than you are, and that his knowledge of historical theory and method puts your capabilities in any subject to shame.
