Christmas Traditions!

We have everyone over at our house on Christmas Eve to exchange family gifts and act out the Christmas story.

I always play the Charlie Brown "Linus and Lucy" song on the piano while the nieces and nephews dance around the living room.

I've been saying this for a number of years now, but it seems this year it's worse than ever before...

There's a war on Christmas. People seem to have forgotten its true, traditional meaning. There's this insidious movement to expand and focus on the nonsensical religious connotation of the day. When I grew up, the holiday was about being with family, sharing, helping the less fortunate, good food and a healthy respect for commercialism. Sure, it always had a religious taint, but most people could easily ignore that. These days, people want to shove the religious part down your throat, like that's what's most important about it. Isn't the Santa myth enough to sustain the holiday? Nobody's arguing over Santa. This other "savior born in a manger" myth... well, not only is it silly, it's just not necessary.

It's so sad to me. I hope people will get back to focusing on the really important traditions this holiday season, for Christmas' sake.

And what's sad to me is that you have taken a very light-hearted thread, that was supposed to be for banter/sharing your traditions of the Chritsmas season (This includes people from all different belief sets) and used it to offer your personal propoganda and opinions of "religious people".


That is sad indeed!

LDS does an excellent job decorating T. Square for Christmas. They carefully wind lights up every branch of very large trees. They also put statues of the Nativity around different locations. Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Ut tries to copy but they fail miserably every year. LDS knows how to decorate. It's beautiful.

You can also stand under a fiery tree and look at the Masonic symbols on the Mormon temple if that suits you. There is a giant, Jesus Man-Statue in one of the visitor centers as well. He is a great role model for the aspiring body builder/toner. I once caught a youth in my ward staring in awe at his exposed pec muscle.
