A miracle at my house last weekend!

Post by _Buffalo »

So last weekend we experienced a genuine miracle in the Buffalo household. Our bathtub was clogged up due to our toddler putting Play-Doh down the drain. I come home to standing water in the tub. So, off I go to get the Drain-o. Only, it doesn't work. The water isn't going anywhere.

My wife suggests a a prayer. I agree (internally rolling my eyes). She kneels down to pray (near the tub), and when she's finished she notices that the drain lever is up. Doh! So she puts it down and the water drains. This, she says, is a miracle from God. She's a lovely person, very intelligent. But she attributes her noticing the position of the drain lever while at eye height with it to God.

What say you, MDB? Did the finger of God come down and interfere in the drain lever of our lives?

It was the act of prayer that led to her discovery. I have had that happen. Something about prayer can help us to slow down and solve our problems. It's pretty cool. I just don't attribute it to anything outside myself anymore.

Glad ya figured it out! Aren't kids awesome?!?!

Good point. The act of prayer or meditation can make someone sit back and analyze a situation from a more calm view point seeing things more clearly, even though it has nothing to do with a supernatural entity communicating with you.

And the act of kneeling gave her a clearer view of the drain position. Luck or divine intervention?

Love the story. :)

You made me wonder about prayer before eating. I honestly think it can be good to pause before eating. My problem is that I'm a little uncomfortable praying in a way that is meaningful to me but strange to the rest of my family. Do you pray at dinner with your family, Buff?

Buff,

No, that wasn't a miracle. Your wife knelt down to pray, putting herself more at eye level to the lever. The act of praying helped her de-stress and focus. She saw the lever, voila! No miracle needed!

Homemade play dough typically won't clog a drain. No guarantees:

Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
3 cups water
1 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
a few drops of food coloring (color of your choice)

Place all ingredients in a saucepan, cook over medium heat until dough forms a ball. Remove from saucepan, place on counter to cool, then store in an airtight container such as tupperware or ziploc bag.

Supervise children working with play dough so they don't jam it down the bathtub drain. :-D

Do yourself a favor. If you haven't already got this stuff, step away from the computer, get in the car and drive over to Wal Mart.

Do it NOW.

Buy a shower squeegee.

Buy a little squirt bottle.

Stuff these into your toddler's C'mas stocking. On Christmas Day, fill the squirt bottle with warmish water, take off your toddler's clothes and plunk him/her into the bath tub/shower. Show him/her how the squirt bottle works and what the squeegee does on the tile. Then hand it all over to him/her.

Step away from the tub. Step FAR away from the tub.

Supervise from a position so that you are not the target, unless you would LIKE to be the target.

Do what I tell you, Buff.

I ain't lyin'
