Folks on this board sometimes seem to forget that there are real people, with real families and feelings, on the other end of the phone line.

I never forget that there are people behind the names, which is why it pisses me off when people like Stem, whyme, belmont, schryver, et al toss out the epithets and put-downs. Stem seemed to treat a number of us all like his personal play things, disregarding our personhood, and he didn't respond to kid glove treatment, or escalating treatment. He needed something to wake him up, to show him how one person, me, reacted to his nonsense and his insults.

Chris, the thing is, you don't treat people the way Stem treated people. I'm uncertain if we all have a short memory or if the holiday season is bringing about an extra dose of charity, but do we all remember stemelbow and the way he treated people around here?

I'm not really sad to see him leave - I think he could have added to the discourse here had he listened to the umpteen times people asked him to tone it down and participate rather than disrupt.

stem's purpose here was obviously to divert, obstruct and frustrate anyone not a rah-rah cheerleader of Mormonism from discussing Mormonism. His OP betrayed his repeated claim that he was here to learn the problems with and criticisms of his religion. stem was successful to a significant degree in obstructing Mormon-topic'd discussions. (stem perhaps had to leave, the incoming artillery he was sustaining regarding his testimony had probably been outnumbering his success count in diversions, obstructions and frustrations.)

It is ironic that those here who typically decry the critics for 'running off TBMs', claiming that without them the quality of substantive discussions will wane (haven't seen evidence of it yet), are wont to have called out stem for his obstructing discussions and wring their hands over his leaving. For consistency's sake, folks, if you want substantive discussions to proceed unimpeded and even be fostered, you should have celebrated the announcement of stem's departure. Not bemoan the loss of his obstructionist efforts.

Absolutely agree. We can disagree, even passionately, without acting like assholes. And LDST, I'm glad you are here. You're a great guy, and I'm honored to be your friend.

The same antimormon posters on CAF are still there posting their same old antimormonism. It is not catholic to post disparaging remarks about other faiths such as the antimormons do on the catholic taliban site. The site is a mockery to catholicism. To have catholics mock the LDS church is hypocritical when we consider the news that just came out of The Netherlands where thousands of people were abused by catholic priests. And that was my point there. But they could not understand the hypocrisy. Heaven forbid if one mentions the abuse scandal. Gone they are from the site.

Nonsense the LDS there gave as good as they got, there was no shortage of LDS mocking of Catholic belief on CAF. By the way you were not banned for discussing the abuse scandal, which had nothing to do with most discussions over there any more than the abuse found in the LDS church did. Your point was "some Catholics have behaved badly so no Catholic can say anything negative about the LDS church" while the LDS, who are just shy of perfection are free to say as they please. Like you who loved to categorized Catholics as drunks who screw like rabbits. The last accusation against Catholics is rather odd considering you don't hold to either the Catholic or LDS standard on sexual behavior as evidenced by you adventures in light cotton and the depth and breadth of your knowledge of pornography.

By the way, I thought this was funny:

One day, over Christmas break, mfbukowski was bragging about how he was kicking some apostate ass over at the trailerpark in a debate on postmodernism.

Most people here will remember that I tried in vain over a long series of threads to explain postmodernism to Brother Bukowski, but he never came even remotely close to grasping it. Instead, he kept changing the subject to Pragmatism and trying to argue that it was superior to postmodernism.

As I kept reminding him, I was not trying to argue about the validity of postmodernism but rather was trying to explain what it was and discuss the appropriateness of applying it to Mormonism. That he couldn't grasp it or understand my intent led to quite a bit of frustration, and I finally gave up.

If realizing that someone is never going to understand what you're talking about is the same as getting your ass kicked, then I suppose I suffered a major ass-kicking.

Wow, LDSToronto. I am truly humbled by your kinds words.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pass that along. It's often a thankless job, so comments like yours give me the strength to keep at it.

Doesn't the profile of this board reflect Mormon society in general?

A few Mormons clinging on to explanations despite the evidence.
A few Mormons who haven't yet seen the evidence.
A few Mormons who have seen the evidence and now don't believe.
A few non Mormons who think Mormonism is silly.

I think if there are more than 0.2% of the board population who fit the first demographic then this board is outperforming the Church...
