Do you feel 'closer' to Jesus Christ during Christmas?

Post by _LDSToronto »

Anyone and all,

When I served in leadership positions, December was always the time when leadership councils would say things like, "We need to visit as many inactive members/non-members as possible because the Christmas season reminds people of Christ".

This is my first Christmas out of the church, and I've been hanging out with as many Gentiles as I have the Lord's Anointed, and I've got to say, I don't think many people think about Jesus at Christmas. People think about get-togethers, and parties, and shopping, and good times, and fun (all of those good things, by the way). But I think LDS leaders have got it wrong.

I find myself on the receiving end of a number of well-meaning emails from members of my ward, wishing me a Merry Christmas, voicing appreciation for me and my years of service, and stating they miss me at church. And I am positive it's because they think that my heart and my thoughts will be turned to Christ because it's Christmas. On a related note, I probably won't hear from them again until Easter...

So, do you think about Jesus Christ now that it is close to Christmas? Do you feel closer to Jesus Christ?

I think Jesus wants us to take it down a notch.

I don't.

My faith ebbs and flows constantly, and I make sure that I am more reflective during this time about who He is, but my relationship is no more poignant now than at any other time.

Yes.

As for the OP, surprisingly yes. At least I am thinking more consciously about the nativity narrative and because of that thinking more about Jesus. Feeling? Well that's another kettle of fish.

No.

But I do feel closer to my family, extended family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and fellow human beings in general.
