You know how Joseph Smith said a seer stone helped him translate ancient records? Isn't that kind of like believing God actually resides in some inanimate object? How far away from idol worship was Joseph Smith?
I say, not far! Now, the modern prophets are afraid to touch the idea with a ten foot pole. People are afraid to believe God is the object before them? Why?
How exciting would that be! To believe you are talking face to face with God. To look at a face, be it stone or wood, or canvas, and see the face of God! You can reach out and touch God? Maybe so. Joseph Smith was almost there.

Yeah, it is silly to think there is something wrong with idols. I have a goddess idol on my altar. It's awesome.
