It's obvious he posted the letter to head off any gossip about why he was released as a bishop. He was given an ultimatum about the letter take it down or face discipline, for family reasons he choose to take it down. In putting it back up it shows not redundancy but a continuing need to address gossip. !

Well, I think that the gossip died a year ago when all this happened. The ward is not that big. Family can put in a word about why he left his calling and I am sure that they did.

And, Why Me, I notice that you are still on your lovely little high horse.

You managed to ignore some of my questions and insights from the previous page of the thread, so I will repeat them here:

Liz wrote:How does the fact that others have drudged up past posts of yours justify you berating Just Me? If you want to be a defender of the faith, then act like one. Be the example you wish to set.

Because I don't see the critics being taking to task by you. Why do I get special treatment? I am not berating just me. However, I do find it troublesome that she stays silent in class and then comes here to post her critical comments of her sunday school or relief society teachers or speakers in her ward.

The only examples that defenders receive here are mocking examples. And you as moderator do nothing about it. Why take me to task? Should defenders keep turning the other cheek?

Emphasis mine.

I do. Perhaps you need to read Liz's posts a little more closely.

More proof that you're not an active Mormon. Gossip is the bread and butter of any LDS ward.

Let me try this again: the letter is a year old. All gossiping ceased by now. Plus, a member of the family can end the gossiping by clarifying what happened. And I am sure that this happened. To post the letter one year later is redundant. And it only increases the gossip once more. Most members move on rather quickly and I am sure that his ward did just fine with him leaving and all moved on with their lives.

Let me try this again: I have not seen Liz berating any poster for their treatment of me. She just ignores it. But with a woman 'under attack' she comes rushing out like wonder woman to support the woman.

What to do?

Typically it's you attacking the woman.

If the gossip had actually died down he would not have posted again, obviously the letter was needed again. Not surprising since the clarifying words of the object of the gossip and his/her family and friends are generally rather mundane and so do not carry the entertainment value that the speculations of the gossipers do. Gossip has a decades long half-life and even after it's demise can be resurrected with just a few words.

The only reason for for him to bring up his resignation as bishop again is to get the sympathetic reaction that he desired. And this is what is happening. He also received some attention for it as he did a year ago. I am sure that he is a sincere and a great guy. But to post his letter again after one year is redundant.

Ya! He should have just shut his mouth, said nothing, posted nothing, and stayed at home, shunned by his former LDS friends and family, and lived a lonely, dark life filled with misery and woe.

Totally agree, Why Me. The Catholic Church doesn't need any apostate Mormon bishops, right?
