Postmortum on the War on Mini-skirts

Post by _zeezrom »

In 1955, Mary Quant opened a boutique bazaar on King's Road in London and within only a few short years, she was experimenting with one of the most formidable weapons the LDS Church has ever faced.

The miniskirt.

Luckily, God prepared his warriars with an arsenal of defense, starting with the first modesty talk of the 20th century, given by Elder Kimball in 1951. This was a momentus moment for the world and the members of the church. From this point forward, God and His angels were lashing out against their oponent.

Meanwhile, the miniskirt made significant advances.

One of the greatest attacks against the miniskirt came from Ezra T. Benson in his 1971 address:
Freedom, a word of noble tradition, is a favorite confuser. Riots, bombings, arson, and killings are committed in the name of freedom. Obscenities test the freedom of speech. Pornography, drugs, and immorality are claimed to be manifestations of personal freedom, along with miniskirts and nudity. License and anarchy are products of these false freedoms.

What a blow! Devastation! Annihilation!

This attack was quickly followed by an editorial in the Ensign that same year:
It is amazing how easily men are able to develop a tolerance for evil. Given in small but increasing doses, actions and ideas that most assuredly come from Satan and were generally condemned in the past have become palatable for more and more people in today’s world.

Look at two illustrations of this principle. One is the almost universal acceptance of short, short skirts. Those who would suggest there may be a moral question in miniskirts are branded as prudes or told that evil is in the eye of the beholder. And this attitude is not entirely uncommon in the Church. There are women, girls, and men who know the Church’s position on modesty of dress and yet have developed such a tolerance for the evil that they seem to have no qualms about it.

Here we are, more than 40 years later. The dust has settled. There is a calm in the air. What have we learned since the days of battle? Will there be another surge on humanity by the Evil Mini-One?

Where art thou? Where dost thou lurk, little devil? What about thy emblem of priesthoods with a raised hemline? Come out and fight some more.

Anyway, happy New Year.

Zee.

Well done, zeezrom.

I propose an occupy movement: Occupy Modesty. Let's take back the word!

MODEST: Relatively moderate, limited, or small.

Thus, I declare the mini-skirt to be MODEST. EXTREMELY MODEST!

Wonder what President Benson's reply would have been if you told him that long pants for women added the greatest degree of modesty?

Hem lines are going up! This is good news. Hem lines have been shown to predict the economy. The higher the skirts, the better the economy. Ladies legs need exposure (not all of them, though).
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.
