He's too busy trying to think of how he's going to make the same stupid insult again. For him, it takes full concentration to come up with the same thing over... and over... and over... and over... and over...

Humor, cleverness, and originality be damned! These things are not valued in the church of hoopsy.

The irony on this thread is as thick as a redwood.

My problem with BrianH is pretty simple. He doesn't really understand Mormonism, so he's attacking a caricature. Of course, a lot of Evangelical anti-Mormons do that, so it's expected. But where he steps it up a level is in his clear and personal disparagement of people because they are Mormons. He tells us how stupid, cowardly, brainwashed, etc., Mormons are.

How in the hell am I supposed to respond that kind of crap? I may not believe in Mormonism, but I'm not going to stand by and watch some bully come in and trash people I love.

Exactly!

Also, this very thread was an attempt to initiate an olive branch...to welcome him into our community. He has, for whatever reason, avoided the opportunity.

Ah Hoops is alright. I admire Hoops for sticking with this forum for so long and standing up for Christian ideals which correspond, in many cases, with Chapel Mormon types of biblical beliefs.

It must be hard, and sometimes grow old, to see your values constantly being attacked.

Damn, it's Tuesday and have to head back to work after some wonderful time off.
Assume it’s the same for many. Best wishing getting started again … this year.

Have you read any of the threads that are inclusive or particular to Christianity? Which, of course, is not within your expertise, so I understand that. But don't act like it never happens.

Of course, a lot of Evangelical anti-Mormons do that, so it's expected.
As do a lot of atheists/agnostics/humanists.

But where he steps it up a level is in his clear and personal disparagement of people because they are Mormons. He tells us how stupid, cowardly, brainwashed, etc., Mormons are.
Yes, that is unfortunate isn't it. I'm glad no regular attendee of this board does that.

How in the hell am I supposed to respond that kind of s***? I may not believe in Mormonism, but I'm not going to stand by and watch some bully come in and trash people I love.
So it's not his behavior, but to whom his behavior is directed?

Of course it happens. It may surprise you, but I don't tend to read posts from people who do that. But when someone new comes here, I do read their stuff, and I comment. When they show they aren't interested in civil discussion, I stop interacting with them.

As do a lot of atheists/agnostics/humanists.

Obviously. But we're talking about Mormonism here, and this guy clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

I never said that. I don't read posts from people who I know regularly do that.

So it's not his behavior, but to whom his behavior is directed?

Nope, not at all. What it means is that BrianH hasn't been around long enough for me to ignore him (though that moment seems to have approached). Let me spell it out for you clearly:

1. Someone comes into the board spewing venom towards other people.

2. I call them on it.

3. They ignore me (or, less likely, they try to behave better).

4. I ignore them.

I think I'm on step 3 with BrianH.

Hoops, Darth J summed it up pretty well in one of the threads:

Darth J wrote:(1) you are demanding that formerly believing Mormons defend ideas that they have already rejected; and
(2) you are trying to draw a line in the sand where formerly believing Mormons have to stop questioning religious truth claims, a limitation not found either in this board's rules or in any meaningful approach to intellectual honesty.

The guy was off the wall, paying no attention to his audience or what they were saying; only returning insult for every response.

I too have to ask, did you read the threads? If so, we took something very different away from them.

He did indeed. Darth J is a good bird.

Yes, I've read them. I'm not disagreeing with the evaluations of BrianH's posts. I agree with them. I am, however, pointing out the insufferable hypocrisy of (some) BrianH's critics.
