BC,

In no way am I trying to attack the church. My friend, I am only trying to think of a way to improve the garment. Since the garment is divine, why not always try to make it *look* divine?

Just in case anyone has been wondering, I did pray before I created those drawings.

I'm not a fan of thongs. And you would want your designs to be comfortable on all women, no?

I have two suggestions:

1) A 30's style chemise and matching "tap pants" (look them up in a good fashion encyclopedia) with lace inserts. The markings could be done as embroidered cut out patterns. Your garter would work perfectly with this.

2) Summer and winter garments. Summer garment are to be made of cotton or other breathable fabrics: going up or down a size could give you a blousier or sleeker fit, depending on individual preference. Winter garments could either be heavier, or made from a good silk blend like the finest mountaineering long johns. Depending on climate, these could be made up in full arm and leg length or anything in between.

I also think making your own garments should be encouraged again (am I right that this is no longer allowed?)

What I'd really like to see some thought put into is temple attire. No, not the sacred robes, but the white dresses and separates that are worn inside. This is where some really interesting, yet simple, design could be employed. And I think it should be in order to create the most "altered," "other worldly" and special experience for the wearer.

I've no remarks on men's garments or temple clothes except to say that short sleeve white dress shirts should be banned both IN and OUT of the temple and among both Mormons and non Mormons. That is the single most ugly item of clothing invented.

If all white suits must be worn by men in the temple, at least get them fitted and tailored if not entirely bespoke.

Here is a close up of the knee band (for women):

thank you for such great suggestions! I'm on it!

Oh, and I wasn't planning on doing the thong, Blixa. Sock Puppet encouraged me... :) But my wife tells me they are great for tight pants. Shrug.. I like the way they look regardless of the utility.

Blixa, this was one of my beefs about temple attendance. First, not all men wear white suits in the temple. Those are reserved for the workers. The regular male patron wears all white trousers, dress shirt, tie, socks, and slippers.

This getup is extremely uncomfortable. The pants are always ill-fitting and the tie is never the proper length.

Women wear something akin to a full length one piece dress. The hem reaches to to the ankle and the sleeves are full length to the wrists. The neckline comes right to the dimple in the bottom of one's neck.

I can't imagine how one would redesign the outfits to be more... I dunno, stylish? Comfortable? But if anyone could, I'm sure it would be you and Zee.

Well, yeah. She has a TR!

If you were already married, wouldn't this be a welcome change? (please disregard my horrible craftsmanship, lol)

Don't look, it's a dude!

Zeez, how does the knee band keep from sliding down the leg?

What commandment(s) prevents my wife from wearing lingerie without garments or nothing at all from time to time? Besides ourselves, we've been through the temple for the first time with two of our children now (5 more to go) and have heard nothing that prevents us from doing what we want in this regard and coming in to conflict with the Church. Obviously you're attacking a Church that doesn't exist (perhaps FLDS?).

From LDS.org
And in a letter to priesthood leaders dated 10 October 1988, the First Presidency made the following important statements regarding how the garment should be worn: “Church members who have been clothed with the garment in the temple have made a covenant to wear it throughout their lives. This has been interpreted to mean that it is worn as underclothing both day and night. This sacred covenant is between the member and the Lord. Members should seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to answer for themselves any personal questions about the wearing of the garment. … The promise of protection and blessings is conditioned upon worthiness and faithfulness in keeping the covenant.

“The fundamental principle ought to be to wear the garment and not to find occasions to remove it. Thus, members should not remove either all or part of the garment to work in the yard or to lounge around the home in swimwear or immodest clothing. Nor should they remove it to participate in recreational activities that can reasonably be done with the garment worn properly beneath regular clothing. When the garment must be removed, such as for swimming, it should be restored as soon as possible.
