Dude wrote:Like that reckless, self-serving claim that the HPV vaccine has "very serious side effects" like autism or mental retardation. WTF? She was just mad because Rick Perry stole her thunder after the Iowa straw poll.
You are really a "strong" supporter of this nutcase?
I honestly had not heard the statement about the HPV vaccine.
As far as my support, yes, I thought she would make a good President. These are her positions documented from her website, that I was most impressed with:
EDUCATION REFORM
Every child in America deserves access to a quality education and I am committed to giving teachers and parents the tools they need to help students achieve excellence. In Minnesota, we are fortunate to have one of the best education systems in the nation, and I believe Congress must ensure states like ours can continue to pursue teaching methods that work while helping the nation’s low-performing schools improve.
As the mother of five biological children and 23 foster children, I know firsthand that every child learns in a different way and I believe teachers must have the ability to tailor lesson plans to meet the needs of each child. While well intended, the No Child Left Behind Act has created a classroom environment of “teaching to the test,” a one-size-fits-all approach to learning that does not work well for every student. That’s why I support abolishing the U.S. Department of Education and returning education decision making to the states under the 10th Amendment. This would give local school administrators, teachers and parents the flexibility to determine what teaching strategies are most effective for their students in establishing high competitive standards and accountability in the classroom.
TAXES
Taxes are simply too high, and American families have less money to spend on their priorities. Rather than taking money from the hands of the middle class to pay for a large, overbearing federal government, I believe in letting hard-working taxpayers keep more of what they earn. This would help strengthen our economy, stimulate job growth and force the government to make wiser spending decisions – all of which would benefit American families.
I have cosponsored several bills to provide tax relief to hard-working Americans, including bills to repeal the estate tax, reduce capital gains taxes, repeal the alternative minimum tax (AMT), extend the adoption tax credit, and, make permanent other important tax relief passed by Congress in 2001 and 2003. Families and businesses can rest assured I will continue to support efforts to reduce taxes and put more money back in the pockets of American workers.
Also, as a small business owner, I understand the need to protect our nation’s small businesses and create opportunities for growth and economic prosperity. I believe that less taxation and government regulation of private companies will continue to make America the best place in the world to do business. For instance, the devastating effects of the death tax are suffered most by family owned small businesses and their employees. Eliminating the death tax is one way Congress can help American family-owned businesses and family farms expand opportunity, create jobs and stimulate the economy.
I am also a cosponsor of legislation to create Association Health Plans (AHPs) which would allow small businesses to join together through trade associations to purchase lower cost health insurance for their workers. This legislation would increase small businesses’ bargaining power with health care providers, give them freedom from costly state-mandated benefit packages, and lower their overhead costs by as much as 30 percent. These are all benefits that many large corporations and unions already have because of their larger economies of scale, and it’s time to give this same benefit to smaller businesses.
In my work as a former federal tax attorney, I saw firsthand that our nation’s tax laws are hard to understand and undermine the country’s prosperity by imposing needlessly harsh penalties on work, savings, and investments. There are commonsense standards that should govern our nation’s tax system such as simplicity, fairness, and efficiency. Unfortunately, those standards are far from being met and the U.S. tax code continues to result in a complicated mess for taxpayers every year. Simplification of the tax code must be a priority.
HOMELAND SECURITY
The United States has been blessed with a strong, dedicated military which can and will defend our nation’s security and preserve the freedoms we cherish each day. I believe in the mission of our men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and support providing them with the necessary funding they need to achieve success overseas. Our commanders on the ground deserve praise as they have taken the fight to the enemy in both Afghanistan and Iraq and have prevented terrorists from striking us here at home. I support their efforts to combat terrorism, to ensure the safety of our country, and to further democracy in other parts of the world.
Last July, I was fortunate enough to meet with our soldiers and military officials in Iraq, Kuwait, Pakistan, Ireland and Germany. While in Germany, I was honored to visit American troops at Landstuhl Regional Medical Facility, the largest American military hospital outside the United States. In the brief time I spent with some of our brave men and women, it was clear to me that they not only understood the importance of their mission, but they were determined to complete it.
Leaving Iraq too soon would jeopardize our national security and give the terrorists a tremendous victory in the war on terror. However, I believe that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) should continue moving forward with their contingency planning for a redeployment of U.S. Armed Forces from Iraq. Recently, I voted for H.R. 3087 which sheds light on the DoD’s standard operating procedure of contingency planning. This measure would not impose one specific exit strategy on our military commanders, but would encourage the President, in coordination with the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other senior military leaders, to develop and transmit to Congress a comprehensive strategy for the redeployment of our troops.
We have an obligation to future generations of Americans to ensure our country keeps terrorism off U.S. soil. I will continue to support efforts to strengthen our national defense and support our uniformed men and women who are committed to protecting America.
