I do, very much so.

Maybe some here can help with that journey, but in my experience, mostly not. Just look at some of the threads here, and draw your own conclusion. I can't think of a faster way to lose faith (not just in Mormonism) than by coming here.

I come here to work through some of my misgivings and explore anomalies I see in the Church. But I certainly did not mean to offend you. I feel, like Hamlet, that I have shot mine arrow o'er the house, and hurt my brother.

I sincerely wish you well, Ray.

You haven't hurt me. It's just that I've been here considerably longer, and know too well the "spiritual damage" (watch them mock this term) "this place" can do. Does the term "flaxen cord" ring a bell with you?

All the best, my friend.

I'll say it again, Ray, "this place" has actually taught me respect for the spiritual and encouraged me to read a great deal more not just in Mormon history, but in the Bible itself.

I'm pretty sure we're coming from different perspectives, Blixa. I acquired a "spiritual outlook" when I was eight years old ("schooled" by Catholic priests and nuns), and began reading, and respecting the Bible when I was ten. It's no real mystery why I "gravitated" towards Mormonism, and particularly the Book of Mormon, which I've read more than 20 times (stopped counting at 20, or more like lost track it was so many times).

I don't perceive you as being a "negative" contributor here. Maybe I'm missing something. I know you're interested in history, and have a great fondness for Utah/Mormon history, and appreciate the cultural heritage.

If you've gained from being here, more power to you. I haven't, and by the looks of things, many others haven't, either. To use an Aussie saying, they've abandoned "this place" in "droves".

Maybe I should use the ignore feature more? lol.

Cheers.

I don't see any evidence whatsoever that would tell me Consig is headed for atheism. How could any person foresee the future beliefs of a person, especially through the words written on a message board.
Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

Hear hear!

On top of this, who cares if he does? Nothing wrong with lacking a belief in a god. Buddhists are atheists. So are a lot of rather amazing and caring people.

How many Buddhists have you personally talked to? Do you really understand Buddhism? I can verily assure you it's not the same as a "Dawkins atheism".

Anyway, I have a Skype appointment with someone, so for now, see you later.

Is that because the Gospel of Faith (belief without any basis in evidence) withers in the light cast by the Gospel of Reason here?

However if he took heart medication and forgot, that would certainly cause a problem. When people are in such situations when they see someone like in this story, they react in various of ways usually through shock. The people involved thought that they did the right thing and brother involved did not say call an ambulance. We never know how we react when confronted by an emergency.

You'll forgive me if I would rather take the word of the competent, trained, doctor's and nurses who advised the family afterwards, over your word?
Are you sure about that, H.? You'd really consider competent, trained doctors and nurses as more reliable on medical issues than why me? Curiously strange.

Oh, sorry, you didn't specify that you were talking about a specific TYPE of atheism. But then, I could have just missed it.

I was using the term atheism for what it is defined as...you know...a lack of belief in any god/s. My understanding of Buddhism is that they do not have a belief in any god/s. This is why I used it as an example, though I could have picked others.

Maybe you could point me out a site that explains "Dawkins atheism" and how it differs from regular ol' atheism. There is no wiki page for the term. ;)

Do you believe that a religious atheist is "okay" and a non-religious atheist in not? Or is it advocacy for atheism that you despise?

I hope you enjoyed your Skype appt.
