Okay ...so where does this excerpt teach baptism for the "dead" - I mean in the biological sense used by Mormons. I mean ...I see where it follows the New Testament doctrine of descending "dead" in the spiritual sense into the water. I do not see where it says anything like what Mormons practice: proxy baptsim by living persons for dead, unsaved persons.

Beats me. I just posted what I found and figured maybe that was what consig was talking about.

1. Faith 2. Repentance 3. Baptism (by immersion) 4. The Gift of the Holy Ghost 5. Endure to the end
Brian - what on this list DIDN'T Jesus teach about when he was alive on the Earth?
Your premise is false. You have left out many uniquely LDS docrines taught at various times by the LDS "prophets" and "scriptures" under the rubrick of a supposed "restoration" including:
polygamy polytheism the Jesus-Satan brotherhood the exaltation of men into gods the doctirne of God the Father as a mere demigod secret handshakes and passwords required to join the Mormon pantheon
As for your list above, well exactly NONE of them are in any way even close to unique to Mormonism. Each and every one of them have been continuously affirmed by Christian chruches ever since there were any Christian churches, so the idea that the LDS "prophet" somehow "restored" them is an oxymoron.

Bwian, this wasn't my list. It was the defined list from Preach My Gospel.
The things you list don't, therefore constitute part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ - they are parts of the Church.
Elder Poelman in 1984 explained that the Church and the Gospel are two seperate and distinct things. So if Jesus taught Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Gift of Holy Ghost, Endure to the End. Then He did indeed teach the same Gospel as the Mormon Church teaches.
There, gave it my best shot.

Would the structure of the restored Mormon Church being the same as the Church Jesus set up, suggest that Jesus, were he here today, be a Mormon?

One of the things I've noticed is that, even though Mormons make that statement, I can't think of any Bible passage that Mormons point to as being definitely translated incorrectly. Can you think of any, Hoops?

While Brian is brushing up his reading comprehension skills, I will note it has been my experience that Mormons tend to believe more of the Bible more straightforwardly than any other Christian denomination with which I am familiar.
All the Best!
