The church's long campaign of persecution against apostates

Post by _Buffalo »

From the Danite robbery, assault and expulsion on people like the Whitmer family to blood atonement to slander from the pulpit to the practice of shunning, Mormonism has waged a nearly 200 year war on apostates.

When will they let my people go?

No.

The Lord has hardened their hearts.

Er ... I mean Pharaoh has hardened his heart ... (see JST)

You have to admit, though that the Church also had its share of enemies. The tragedies of Haun's Mill and Winter Quarters come to mind.

Most of hardened antimormons were from the ranks of the apostates. They rallied many of the mobs against the Mormons. And one was very influential in killing Joseph Smith: william law.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

They briefly suffered some genuine persecution, sometimes from the "gentiles" and sometimes from apostates. Their war of persecution against apostates, however, has continued to this day. Their war of persecution against gentiles ended perhaps in the 60s.

The Mormons bitterly persecuted the apostates, stealing their goods and their homes, driving them out of their cities. You can't blame some for taking it into their hearts to retaliate against such gross persecutions.

Of course, it all culminated when the Mormons decided to murder 140 men, women and children in cold blood, and rape the women in the field even as they lay dying. :(

Stop disparaging the name of William Law. It took a lot of courage for him to stand up for what he believed what right.

By "war", I take it you mean the little scholarly Mopologist war that happens with the folks at MI, FAIR, FARMS, and MAD? Or are you referring to something more serious?

Do you have a source for this?

Are you referring to MMM? That was, indeed, a horrendous event. I was not aware of the raping of women...not that the murders were not bad enough. Do you have a source for this?

Classic example of attacking an innocent man who had the courage and stand up and speak his mind. I have yet to see evidence that what he said was not true. You should be ashamed that you are one of the persecutors.

No, rather the things said from the pulpit about apostates, and the families destroyed by Mormon shunning of apostates.

A great example is David Whitmer. The Danites kicked him out of his house, stole all his family's possessions, and kicked them out of town.

Yes, the MMM. Rape references:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killings_a ... e#Massacre

Two teen-aged girls, Rachel and Ruth Dunlap, managed to clamber down the side of a steep gully and hide among a clump of oak trees for several minutes. They were spotted by a Paiute chief from Parowan, who took them to Lee. 18 year old Ruth Dunlap reportedly fell to her knees and pleaded, "Spare me, and I will love you all my life!"[10] (Lee denied this). 50 years later, a Mormon woman who was a child at the time of the massacre recalled hearing LDS women in St. George[11] say both girls were raped before they were killed.[12]

I seem to recall another story about dying women being raped, but I can't find it now.
