CUMORAH, HILL See also Book of Mormon; Moroni, Son of Mormon; Smith, Joseph, Jr.. A small hill located in western New York, United States of America. Here an ancient prophet named Moroni hid the gold plates containing some of the records of the Nephite and Jaredite nations. Joseph Smith was directed to this hill in 1827 by the resurrected Moroni to get these plates and translate a portion of them. This translation is the Book of Mormon.
Nephites gathered at Cumorah, Morm. 6:2–4 Cumorah was in a land of many waters, Morm. 6:4 Mormon hid the records in the Hill Cumorah, Morm. 6:6 All but twenty and four Nephites were slain at Cumorah, Morm. 6:11 We hear glad tidings from Cumorah, D&C 128:20 Joseph Smith took plates from the Hill Cumorah, Joseph Smith—H 1:42, 50–54, 59
Bolded for emphasis in case they would like to argue that this refers only to the place where the plates were deposited.
Good point, Willy. BC has contended that there were 2 Cumorahs. This official Church writing seems to indicate otherwise.

I agree. I don't see eye-to-eye with Dan on a lot of issues but Dan has never given me the impression that he is dishonest in any way. Snarky? Yes. Inadvertently offensive/rude? Sometimes. A liar? I don't think so.

Please spare me the sniffles.
Go and ask the school teacher himself what is the name of the king written in the writing of Facsimile No. 3 and see if he believes Joseph Smith or tells some kind of lie to defend the false prophet.
The more and more I learn about the lies of Mormonism, the more I don't feel bad they tarred and feathered his sorry ass. Joseph Smith was a real liar! Spank his ass!

I feel like I have been falsely accused by Dr. Peterson, but he has his reasoning for what he does. I would not say he has lied or is a coward today in retrospect to our many heated posts to one another. I think he deserves more respect than that. He simply has a different view on the subjects than I do.

I struggle with the notion that DCP is genuine and sincere. He does not exude the countenance of one that claims to be a disciple of Jesus, even Mormon style. After a life devoted to his religion in one way or another, including teaching at his church's university, he does not exhibit long-suffering, kindness or equanimity that one encounters with people who have spent their lives smoothing out their rough spots to become more Christ like.
DCP is more of an online piranha--it's like a gushing outlet for pent-up frustrations that he must tamp down in his real life to come across as genial and friendly in person.
If DCP is genuinely Mormon, then that's an indictment of the fruits of Mormonism. If DCP is not, well then he is being disingenuous and is using Mormonism as an institution because he is deeply invested in it.

I don't know Dan personally but I do know a lot of people who do. I've asked a few of them: "Is Dan as mean spirited as he can come across on message boards and in some of the polemical articles he writes?"
The answer is always no and that Dan is actually a pretty great guy in real life. I would like to see Dan cut down on the sarcasm, subtle insults, and the constant attempt to score rhetorical points .... but hey, there are tons of people who wish I did a lot of things differently too.

Which Dan is the real one? Or does he perhaps morph depending on the personal importance to him of the audience?

Certainly no one can answer that question, but Dan.

Actually, I think it's all about perception. The real Dan is whoever it is that you interact with, but the reality for one might be different to the reality for another. One mans vile jerk might be another mans humble servant.
My interactions with him have been limited and solely Internet based. I managed to get past the spiky exterior and have civil dialogue with him. From my experience I believe he likes and in some ways actively seeks negatively publicity - because it gives him credibility in apologetic circles.
