Mormon Church replaces it's historian w attorney

Post by _Joey »

Interesting article

Time for the church to legal up about it's history! And why the need for an attorney to be a historian? What kind of background is that for this position?

If only Provo were here to tell us all how involved in this decision he was. Oops, excuse me, Provo and Hamblin!

I'm guessing the Carla Ogden fiasco brought in the need for an attorney!

The Mormon Church has a long and storied history of lawyering up. Even JSJr boasted he was "Big Lawyer". But lawyering up in the historian's office simply makes one wonder why.

Sorry Joey, Marlin K. Jensen is also an attorney. They are replacing an attorney with an attorney.

So you're saying Ogden won't be pursued for using church fax forms and Hambin is safe from censorship for false statements in his FARMS article?

LDS general authority Marlin K. Jensen was not a professional historian nor an academic

You probably use a wedge at lunch every day. A fork is considered a wedge. A fork can be used to cut or split food apart. Can you think of another wedge you use to help you eat? (How about a knife?)

Instead of using the smooth side of the inclined plane, you can also use the pointed edges to do other kinds of work. For example, you can use the edge to push things apart. Then, the inclined plane is a wedge. So, a wedge is actually a kind of inclined plane. An axeblade is a wedge. Think of the edge of the blade. It's the edge of a smooth slanted surface. That's a wedge! Want to know more?

I saw that statement by Elder Jensen. It amazed me that he acknowledged this in such a way.

I don't recall seeing this in the article linked above. Where is this from?

And why the need for an attorney to be a historian?

Maybe there is an over the top lawyer who needs to be moved out of lawyering?

I saw that statement by Elder Jensen. It amazed me that he acknowledged this in such a way.

He also said, "I think we have an obligation as the stewards of Church history to keep faith and retain the trust of the prophet and his fourteen associates in the administration of the Church. And to carry out whatever we do in a way that corresponds with their view and their goals for the Church generally so that we're not just a rogue or independent Church history department but we're nestled safely within the Church doing with Church history what the leaders of the Church and then hopefully what the Lord would want us to do."

And he prefaced that with "I want to say this delicately" but the reality is that there is no delicate way of putting the fact that what's produced will not damage faith or contradict doctrine.
