It is a pleasure to have been able to start a thread that says something positive in connection with LDS culture and the Book of Mormon.

I am glad too that some posters have been able to express judgements that were somewhere in between the two extremes of 'it's awesome'/'it sucks'. Maybe I need to start doing the same about some aspects of LDS thought and religious expression?

Who would posters suggest as a potential Minerva Teichert of LDS scholarly writing who might begin to thaw my frost-bound heart?
Zadok:
I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.
Maksutov:
That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Love these. Can't figure out why anyone would say they suck. Oh, well.

To me, these last three are much better! Very nice!

Another aspect of M T that I like is how easy it is to recognize her work. She has a consistent style and this style communicates some nice things.

I kinda choked a little when zee mentioned Sister Snow, who was pretty much the female equivalent of Orson Whitney.

She does have a unique style, which I like very much.

You forced me, Z, to Google her and I discovered that she lived in Cokeville, Wyoming. I knew a few people from there (the Peterson family) and Googling a little more found that Lyman Dayton had done a documentary about her. I did some work with Lyman many years ago. Small world.

nevertheless and notwithstanding your choking, she has brought Mormons closer to Heavenly Mother than any other prophet. I'm biased, I suppose.
