I haven't denied the holy ghost. And that makes all the difference. They did deny the holy ghost and the feelings that he gave to them as members. See my point?

my wife just walked into the kitchen and said, "The McKays are just like us!"

She says, the feelings, the parents, the struggle, everything is the same - you could write a textbook on how it feels to leave the church.

I don't know, did they? One thing is for certain those saints who made it to the valley did okay. And they were pioneers who created a state and made history.

Actually no they didn't. They just don't think those feelings(your words) are coming from some Holy Ghost. See the difference?

I don't see this couple as brave. They quit. Nothing brave in quiting. Much better to stick it out and try. But they just gave up. They took the easy way out.

And then, people tried to help them come back. These people were brave. They went out of their way to arrange a meeting with a GA. Got the meeting. And in the end, the couple were too afraid to commit. I see no bravery at all. They quit too soon.

But at the time they did. And they had many spiritual experiences. And they were happy with those experiences. But now they have denied the holy ghost and those feelings. Now they are rationalizing that all exmos need to do. But...they remember...

Well, parents are parents. If they love their children there would be such a reaction. And the feelings? Why would it be any different. You had the same holy ghost testify to you and now you rejected it. Of course, most would be the same as the couple. Why would it be any different?

However, without the spiritual experiences in the church, leaving is easy. It is only when such feelings are rejected does the problem begin.

Jason Bourne wrote:Personally I don't find them awfully heroic. They made their choice and I honor that.

The first time I returned from a military deployment I would feel awkward when someone would say they appreciated my service. It was my job and I was doing what I had said I'd do. There are a lot of other people who were very heroic. I personally would say my wife had to be much more heroic than I ever had to be. In that sense, I can relate to your comment above.

But when, at the end of #3, they talk about losing their house and I think sincerely downplaying the unique financial consequences they have suffered because, frankly, they decided to live with integrity then I'd say yes, they are heroic. More than I was required to be. I kept my wife, my job, and my family hasn't completely disconnected from me. How would I have reacted if a family member had blamed my wife for my leaving? Probably not well, and possibly physically in a way I would have regretted later. Again, in that sense I think they have been more "heroic" than I had to be. I would give them a lot of credit. They made a tough choice for what I think are the right reasons and had serious in real life consequences that I haven't had to deal with. I have no problem calling it heroism.

Wrong again. They don't deny the feelings, only the interpretation that is was the Holy Ghost. You would think this is simple to understand instead of getting all the rationalizations from you.
