Fake 1st Pres letter handed out at BYU regarding polygamy?
Someone in my ward told my wife that her kid who is going to BYU had the Bishop of their ward ask them if they had received a flyer at their Stake Conference that was a letter from the First Presidency. A couple of people raised their hands. They were told to discard it. It turns out it was a fake First Presidency letter regarding polygamy, speaking in favor of its restoration. The Bishop thought it was a fundamentalist attempt to convert female students to polygamy, but I'm wondering if it may have been someone trying to provoke the Church into making a statement about polygamy in order to affect Mitt Romney's campaign. I dunno. Does anyone else know anything about this incident?

Or it could have been a practical joke by someone here:)

Haven't heard anything about it. Sounds like either a joke or weird anti-Mormon gesture.

Yeah, it may have been just a joke, especially if it only took place at one specific meeting. It'd be interesting to see the actual flyer.

I'd bet it originated with the FLDS. That particular ant hill is very disturbed right now, and the've recently sent materials to a lot of LDS wards.

Don't know anything about the letter, but I really like your new wave avatar.
Very cool.

I think I went to high school with that guy.

When I went to BYU in the early 80's, we were warned to be careful of FLDS scouring the campus looking for young women who they might be able to convert to polygamy.
This rift between the FLDS and LDS has been going on for a very long time.
It would be very interesting to see a copy of that flyer/letter, though!
